Anyone actually record bass amps?

Always get a DI, use an amp if available and it sounds ok.

For me it's the old boomingclean DI + ampsim grind DI blended.

I really want to experiment with using my 5153 for the bass grind.

Mic'd amp and sansamp.
I've never used an unprocessed DI ever.
I did occasionally use the psa1 in front of the amp or even after the recording on the mic'd signal

LDC for the highs/mids and finger slapping
and an AKG D112 or a di box for the lows

Sansamp distressor
Hi passed Di into 5150 to Mesa cab to 421 to distressor.

I always take a di and also run my Hartke VXL pre into Warwick Tubepath 5 head into Warwick cab and mic with a 421.
In the mix I usually go with the amp.
Sometimes the di has better clarity and I use that.
I rarely blend the 2.
