my new guitar came with 10's and the G string plain not wound and i think i like it better this way but all the brands i usually buy are wound? plz help

Every pack of strings I've purchased has a wound G-string. O wait I play bass.

DR make a set with a non-wound G-string, according to the website they only come in 12's though. Pretty sure my buddy used a set of these once, pretty sure I don't remember fuck all about them (this was many years ago I played them). He loves DR either way.

Do you use a pretty heavy gauge, or are you talking about acoustic guitars. I can find about 10,000 different brands of strings without a wound G. You just have to go with 10's or higher.

Here's what I use: http://www.zzounds.com/item--DADEXL115

They're heavier than 10's, but still have the unwound G. That way I can tune down to at least D without them flapping in the wind. They could be tuned clear down to B much nicer than 10's, though.

If you're talking about acoustic, I don't know why you want the unwound G, and I can show you where you can get them. Let me know.

not acoustic. electric heavy metal guitar. i'm not actually sure that this guitar came with 10's, i just assumed it did because most guitars do! might be 11's, i don't think any thicker than that though. i don't tune down. cheers for the infoz!

I NEVER have wound-G strings. I have Gibsons on my Les Paul right now, and I usually use D'Addario. To the best of my knowledge, both of those strings aren't wound.

Wound G-strings = GHEY.

But I've never, ever, bought a pack of strings with one anyways so I don't really care. Actually I did once but that was lame.

9's fo' Lyfe!

i'd use 9's if I didn't play a Gibson :(

Well it won't hurt anything, but Gibsons (especially Les Pauls) aren't calibrated for 9's. Who the fuck cares, thrash on.

DR 10's are the best strings on the planet. Well, the best I've played anyway. Great density, incredible string life, etc. Gibsons strings are also very good in my experience.

Tully is your bridge set for 9's ? If not I would do so, like Max said Gibsons really arent designed to handle anything under 10. Then again, like he also said, if it works without problems its no big deal.
