Are you angry about the Maiden tour dates too? Post here.

let's see Atlanta is one of the 10 largest cities in the US. Has the busiest airport in the WORLD....But gets screwed ALL the time by metal bands....makes no sense...
That is bizarre. I can only assume it's about logistics. Perhaps bouncing down to Atlanta, just to bounce back up, doesn't work for some reason. As I said, there has to be a reasonable explanation. Unless...

It's been noted that Maiden didn't use to ignore these markets. So, what's changed? Answer... Janick Gers. Now that I step back and think about it, rationally, it all becomes clear. Gers is a Civil War buff who hates the South. Nothing else makes sense.

Now that's an excuse I would not have thought of.I certainly hope that's not it,but I wouldn't doubt it being it.

People who live in New York, California, Chicago, Dallas, etc.: this topic is not for you.

Ok, I know this thread isn't for me (a Chicagoan), but maybe it will make you feel a little bit better to know that I use threads like this as motivation to get my ass off my couch and out to shows. If I have a show on my calendar, but that night I feel "eh, I'm kind of tired today, and it's a long drive...", I try to tell myself "NO DAMMIT! Palabra de Dios will be pissed at me for being ungrateful and wasting my opportunities! GET YOUR ASS UP AND GO!" Ok, maybe that doesn't actually make you feel any better, but at least your ranting isn't entirely without benefit, and it makes me feel better knowing that theoretical people will theoretically be less angry with me. :loco:

(that said, you'll still hate me, because although I *generally* try to go to as many shows as I can, I won't be going to this Maiden show. You know, cuz I've seen 'em 7 times, from a 1300-capacity theater to a soccer stadium. Sorry.)

THERE ISN'T ANYONE ON THIS FORUM THAT CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE THAT IRON MAIDEN AND DREAM THEATER, TOGETHER, COULDN'T SELL OUT BOTH ATLANTA AND NASHVILLE.

I guarantee you that they would sell out both of those towns, hands down! The band's management for whatever reason or the venues won't host the bands for whatever reason. It's not a question of logistics or if they'd sell out or not.

At least Glenn, the man with the biggest balls, hosts his METAL festivals in the ATL! How many times did he host up north? Oh yeah, once. How many times on the west coast? Oh yeah, zero!

~Brian~

Threads like these just remind me of Glenn's statement that if I recall correctly, stated that there's only really one person in control of all these major arenas in Atlanta, and that person doesn't really like metal. Thus, we don't get many of these tours.

It's really Glenn that owns those arenas. He uses his alias name,Jimmy Buffett, and chooses to not let any metal shows in.That way ProgPower is the only show to catch a lot of these bands at.:OMG:

I am quite sick of all these "uuuhhhh, they don't play my backyard"-threads/posts...

Yeah. No shit. Especially when it's the same few people who always post them, EVERY single tour. It just becomes obnoxious. It's an useless rant that won't get anywhere, in my opinion. Email the promoters/management/booking agents if it's that irritating.

And regarding the question, no, I'm not angry. I get to see this show 3 times within a few days. I'm excited as hell!!

No one has answered my question.

What is the capacity of the arenas in some of the markets skipped?

This might be a factor.
As I said, if selling out Nashville is only 60% of what selling out NY or Chi-town might be, then logistics still might call for skipping these areas.

Oh, BTW, I personally am not annoyed by such threads.
I know I am very lucky living in Chicago, having the ability to skip going to shows ,knowing that the band will be back within a 12 month period.

I agree, but I think Iron Maiden alone are one of the few bands in the world that can play any major city in the US and sell enough tickets for it to be worth their time and effort. The size of the venue may be debatable, but the reputation of the band alone sells tickets.

It just confuses me how they skip whole areas of the country (like the southeast), especially since Nicko lives in south FL.

Why must it take not only the price of an expensive ticket but also a plane ticket I can't afford to see arguably my favorite metal band?

You just answered your own question. Imagine what it must cost Maiden to fly 70 crew to your city, not to mention all the other expenses. Obviously, there must be the potential for Maiden to loose $ in your city, so the promoters in your city aren't going to pony up big $ from their own wallets and risk not getting it all back. And no promoter is going to take on that much work just to break even.

I'm sorry, I going to break out of my usual placid demeanor to say, "yea, me too." Honestly, it's very basic. If you live in a metropolitan area, you get better jobs, diversity of entertainment and other benefits AND you live with crowds, traffic, high taxes, crime etc. If you live in a less populated area, you have less traffic, crime, metal shows etc. You can't have both. I'm sick to death of people saying, "Hey, why don't they tour in my little neck of the woods." Why don't you move somewhere more populated if it matters to you that much and deal with the pain of living in such an environment? Sorry, you don't have my sympathy.

As for Atlanta, that somehow is an exception. Big city, less metal. Definitely unfair.

This argument doesn't fly... There are 2 top 10 Metro areas in the Southeast... And Tampa is a top 20...

The reason(s) why maiden is skipping the southeast are probably valid, maybe there were no promoters up for it or it didn't make sense logistically, whatever, we don't know.... But the question being asked is absolutely fair, because there is a market, most definitely.
