Arktide - Melodic Folk Metal from Atlanta, GA

Take a step back people........
I think some of you are missing Diabolik's point.

Blind Guardian's lyrics are based on fantasy literature.
Hence, the band can be tagged as "fantasy" metal by some.

Nile has Egyptian themes in their music, though they don't dress as pharoahs or mummies.

The traditional folk metal bands started up paying tribute to their heritage and clothing. Bob's point is that an American suburban band is using this genre for an easy gimmick which is popular now.

thank you.

Would this band exist if Pagan Fest USA never happened?

Yes, it would have since Arktide was founded before PaganFestUSA ever existed. Bands just take a while to get started and now happens to be that time for us.

Bob's point is that an American suburban band is using this genre for an easy gimmick which is popular now.

Interesting controversy you guys have come up with, but that wasn't intentional at all. We do the gimmick because it fits our music and we want to do it.

Now that we're looking to get some recognition around our local area we get reamed for being young and stereotyped about knowing nothing about folk metal.

That's lovely.

Fuck what these idiots and naysayers tell you man, if you guys enjoy playing the music, play it til you fucking die. I like your stuff quite a bit. These people are armchair quarterbacks that revel in putting other people down. Never let them stop you. Ever.

I wouldn't worry about it...you definitely have the attention of some of us in your local area who are looking forward to hearing more of your music, seeing your band play live, etc. The positive reaction seems to outweigh the negative by a three-to-one margin...some of the bands discussed on this board would kill for that kind of ratio

Keep bumping the thread whenever you've posted some new music, and definitely let us know when you're ready to hit the stage; I'll certainly be there to check it out! :kickass:

First of all, there is nothing in their music, song titles, or name that says they are trying to be a certain type of 'folk metal' or lay unrightful claim to anyone's sacred heritage. If you look at their page, it seems more like a fantasy kind of thing, and the 'folk metal' aspect is just the music. They aren't running around saying "We're true viking/celtic/slavic/whatever warriors!" Some of you seem to be reading into this WAY too much.

As a band, you have to be very careful if you are going to take on a strong "theme" or "image". Here is one example:

WHO WOULD YOU RATHER SEE PERFORM BLACK METAL:

OR

I too get deeply upset when young people attempt to emulate a subculture they find appealing.

At this point I think i'd rather see the second one...he just looks so jolly, it has be fun. Either that, or the photographer is holding a cheeseburger.
