Hi everyone, first post here!

So let's get the thing started shall I!

I'm really curious if, at first, you like death voice?
As for me, I was fascinated by Opeth's music, but I had difficulty to get into the death voice. It takes several listening before I get used to them.

how about you?

Once upon a time, there was a metal show on the MTV, early in the morning. So I woke up every morning about 20-30 minutes earlier than I used to, to watch the show, and then go to school. I recorded Slayer's Dead Skin Mask (live) once on a video-tape, cause I was starting to get into Slayer at that time. I hadn't listened to them a lot, but I liked some songs (Seasons In The Abyss, South of Heaven, etc).
To conclude: I erased it the very first time I watched it. It was TOO brutal for me (and they aren't brutal at all..). I think I was even scared of the guys..
I don't know how I got into brutal vocals. I guess it just happens after some time.. now I love them.. and that was my little story :)

First time I heard Opeth was one of those little samples on Amazon and I was totaly digging the music and then he started to growl and I told my self that it was the biggest tradgedy that such good music was beg wasted on such awful vocals. But after downloading a few songs the vocals grew on me, now I love is vocals. I still dont like most growled vocals but there a couple of groups that are real good at it, Opeth being the best...

i put on an opeth cd a friend gave me being told they're like Katatonia, im nodding my head thinking yeah this is really good, then the vocals come on, i think what the fuck, fast forward, and i thought to myself i might like this in a while, as at the time i was just getting in to heavy music, and then a few months later i put it on and never looked back, hes got the best vocals in any band i've heard.

At first, did I like the death vox?
Hell, yeah! Being a death fan for a long time already the day me
and my friend picked up this package of cd's from the post-office
in '94, I think. Right after the release of Orchid. That stuff just
blew our minds out! Awesome music and powerful vocals!
Does it get much better??

At first I hated death vox and everything that had death vox. Then I discovered Tristania. I simply loved their music too much to forsake it because of the vocals. I listened to it and soon I grew to love the vocals. Now I actually prefer death vocals.

The first growling I heard was Tomas Lindberg...The song was 'Cold' by At the Gates...Beforehand the closest thing to a growl I had heard was Brujeria and Fear Factory...I instantly liked them...It didn't take any time for me to get into them..

the growl vocals help play a major role with the lyrics,,,you wouldnt receive that same feeling or vision without the vocals that he uses. Music is the key to the way someone is truely feeling,,,so i think that the vocals truely prove how that person is feeling when the lyrics were writen/ sung.......it took me a while to realize this.

Hated growling at first.

Indeed the first song i ever began listening to anything that was even remotely growlish was Pantera's "Cemetery Gates".... and its been a slow but steady road from there to what i listen to today

Well, I must admit...I at one point felt death/growling vocals were kinda different and unusual. That's when I had not been listening to as much metal (just Metallica and the likes.) But, At the Gates opened the doors for me. Immediately after I heard their mesmerizing album "Slaughter of the Soul" I was hooked and immensely impressed with the incredible vocal work. At the time, I've never heard better vocals or music.

Eventually, I got into Opeth which is currently my favourite band. The music and vocals as of right now are perhaps the finest I have ever heard! Metal or not, this is music at it's best! Nothing beats "Black Rose Immortal" off Morningrise.....distorted vocals is something I'm downright used to now and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's the same with bands like Katatonia, Dissection, After Forever and Satyricon....all great bands in their own respective way.

Hehehe....my first post as well.
