yo, all sarcasm/smartassness aside,

how do you guys RELAX when youre drumming, when it comes to my hands, i got no worries. when it comes to my fuckin feet, im like tweek on south park.

ive been trying for over a year on certain stuff, and still fuckin not getting it, it'll come here and there, but when i TRY to do it, it aint there.

i know my main problem is not relaxing.

im a total perfectionist, so that is why this is bothering me.

HELP PLEASE!

All right, I am not sure exactly what you mean, but I'll take a crack at it. I know it sounds gay but I exercise to strengthen my legs. I jump rope like crazy everyday. I have found that after about 25/30 minutes of jumping rope your endurance will be much higher.

Play "heel up" on the bass drum for more power and speed. The heel down technique will work but requires a bit more effort.

If it is more of a coordination thing, I found that best way to "perfect" whatever song you are working on is to break the exercise down and practice only two parts at a time, alternating parts until they become easy to play. Then, add the third and finally the fourth part and you've got it.

What I also do is sit down for 15 minutes or so and visualize myself playing through drum patterns. I go over them in my mind repetitively just as you would on your real drums.

Lay off caffeine it makes you dehydrated and causes anxiousness

Breathe freely when you play the drums. Otherwise you stifle the flow of oxygen and cause your body to work harder. This in turn will prevent you from being fully relaxed.

Not sure if any of these tips helps ya but anyways, goodluck

cool thanks bro, im workin on the breathing thing, i already exercise, but one thing that i noticed (so far with my personal experience) is that you have to do heel up, and heel down. sometimes certain parts feel right hell down, and sometimes it feels right heel up. one thing with heel up i have a problem with is my foot just freezes and stops , i can relax alot more heel down.

anyways thanks for the info.

hmmm...I never had problems with feeling uneasy during fast doublekicks if that´s what you mean. Steve is right about the heel up technique. You have to make sure your technique is proper, for instance let someone show you? And of course, practice is the key.

Make sure you don´t have a "spasm" when playing fast. It´s not about your physicall fond, it´s about the proper way how to do it. Playing the shit out of the kit is not an easy thing. Keep it up!
