So,

I found this plugin called Audio ease Cabinet which is basically a cab sim, I couldn't find any threads about it here so I decided to make a quick sample.

It features 5 cabs, Marshall, Fender, Orange, Mesa and one that I can't recognize :) . Not sure exactly what models.
You can download a 30 day trial from their homepage, and the demo works without any periodical hiss/silence.
Since there were no metal:ish sounds on their homepage I recorded a quick test

Test:
I used my Ibanez RG with EMG 81 into my emu 0404 soundcard, into soloC boosting soloC(settings:http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1063820/audioease_Test/settings.JPG). Dualtracked
After that cabinet, and finally just a lowpass at 12k
The settings i used in cabinet was like in the screenshot, same for all cabs. No further processing.

For some reference I ran the same DI:s through catharisstudio impulses s-pres8 and 1on-pres8. I actually added a c4 with sneap settings on the catharis tracks since I almost always do it, and I thought it would be more fair. just a lowpass at 12k at catharis tracks.

Reference track: s-pres8 first, then 1on-pres8

Cabinet tracks: first mesa, then fender, then marshall, finally orange

Conclusions:
I liked both tracks and of course it is hard to judge by just one riff and without a real mix. But I think Cabinet has potential to be very good and the price is pretty cheap, € 59.44 incl VAT. Of course there are loads of free impulses that are very good too, but it seams like a solid product.

What do you think?

None of those even touch Ryan's fredman impulses :S
Less than chuffed

I fired the demo up for a wee test earlier on, got what I thought was a pretty good tone, then ran the catharsis impulses for a comparison and promptly uninstalled the demo.
However that speakerphone plug looks the tits for doing sound design, quite a cool video of it on the Audioease site.

I agree that the catharis ones sound better alone because they have much fatter low end, but I still believe that the other ones might sound good in a mix, I like the mids/highs.

Probably won't buy the plugin anyway.

Edit: Just checked out the speakerphone demo video, that thing looks really cool.
