Audiogalaxy Group

Yeah, but I doubt it will be as widespread as
audiogalaxy, as it had pretty much everything!

I disagree, it's quite easy to build such client systems, really.
These days, it's no problem at all. New ones will come. Many people
discovered AG too late... they never even realised how much better
it was compared to Napster... I cannot even start to compare them.
There is something out there we haven't discovered yet!
As long as there are ppl with guts.... we'll have it for sure!

what's MIRC then? please explain!

www.mirc.com

A chattingprogramme, but you can receive files
as well... There are channels in there, and
people are running servers, so you can que and
download files... But ques can be long, so a lot
of time and good bandwidth is always positive >:eek:P

Anyways, drop me a pm if you start using mIRC,
we could chat there too! Hehehe...)

there's some channels that are quite decent, you don't have to wait hours in que and the sends are quite fast... hm.. in Dalnet there's #mp3-black death, #mp3blackmetal, #mp3-blackmetal, #mp3-darkmetal...

i don't really like mIRC 'cause i'm the worst and most uninteresting chatter ever! some can testify :p

about AG... it's sad 'cause i got lots of stuff i couldn't have gotten any other way and i 'met' lots of really "underground" (so to speak) bands.. but on the other hand it's better for artists like Mr. V... i have mixed feelings about all this..

ok, i will!:) :D :) :D

Of course there will come a new file-sharing programs and definitely one will become as popular as ag or napster were. There's still plenty of people after free music..

about IRC.. everyone of you should visit ultimatemetal's chat sometime.. unless you're scared of me, then you better stay away from there 'cause I happen to be there quite often :p

@astarte: just try to be online same time with me, okay? then we can chat about the problems you have with chatting :p

Fleischwolf - why do you want to do this to the musicians? it's theft and it's wrong. You are breaching copyrights and couldn't show a higher degree of disrespect for musicians if you tried. What is your reasoning for doing this? I thought you supported the musicians.

oh my, this group was about sending songs you like to others with similar interests! i never sent a whole album to everybody, saying "don't buy it, here's the mp3's"! if i would give a cassette with songs i like to a friend and would tell him to check it out, would that be theft too? this group was about bringing music you like towards others! i think it got many people from the group into music they otherwhise wouldn't even have heard of! for instance of groups that are unknown internationally and have only a small regional popularity! about this being wrong i have doubts! actually if you play a beatlessong on your guitar in front of some friends, it's theft too! would you then pay paul mccartney money for it?:)

I bought Insomnium cause of you!) I think it
was you sending Insomnium to me, at least it
was someone from that group )

Sent me one/two songs, and now I have the
album, quite good music, haven't had too much
time for their release yet, but I will ))

You can say that you use programs like this to find out about bands, that makes sense, I do it too. But that dosn't take away from the fact that the MAJORITY of people using programs like these are STEALING the music, and never buy CDs. I am neutral on the subject, but have strong opinions for both sides. But you have to understand that people in this industry are getting fucked over very badly because of programs like these.

Actually, one of the things that Misanthrope was saying (and one of the few things I agreed with) is that without AG, many in that MAJORITY that you're talking about wouldn't buy the CDs. Even if someone introduced them to whatever band.

For example, I have 18 Empyrium MP3s (which is a lot for me). I listen to them on occasion. If I didn't have them, I wouldn't go out and buy the CDs... I don' t like the music enough.

But finding the number of ACTUAL lost sales is impossible to find, and all estimates are biased one way or another...

Mp3 files in my opinion are both a godsend are a curse. I don't need to repeat what everyone has said, but in all honesty if it weren't for mp3s I would be listerning to metal at all, let alone art like Vintersorg. I'd still be listening to stuff like Creed, Lit, and Offspring.

On the other hand, it does bring a certain vulnerability to the music industry. I know a few people who never buy cds and just download and burn. A friend one commented "why should I pay for something I can download?" So I can clearly see Mr. V's point in this.

Idealy it would be best if mp3 pirating, as we know it, was wiped out and a company or network was set up to share about 2 or 3 tracks from a cd so people can have a taste, but not go nuts. But such a thing is impossible because people are greedy bastards.

Oh, and by the way the promo of Visions from the Spiral Generator has been leaked and that pissed me off royaly. I can understand the sharing of music already in existence, but an album that isn't even out yet is just fucking stealing it.

Hmmm. I just noticed I sounded a bit hypocritical there.

I agree with you, Belial. I do think the sampling idea is a good one, problem is it's too widespread. I've discovered stuff through trades of CDRs and just lending things, I do think that's an ok way to do it, because you can control how many people you give stuff to, and in order to get something, you have to know someone who already has. On the internet, you don't, it only requires one person to buy it.

Nice idea, just doesn't work at the moment......

This reminds me of a part of a skit I saw on Comedy Central. It was an awards ceremony and this big pop star was walking down the red carpet that lead to the building when he was ambushed by some very eager fans. One of them was like "oh my god, oh my god I can't believe I'm talking to you. I am your biggest fan! I downloaded all of your mp3s. I may even buy a cd some day!"

Belial, that'll prevent an exact digital copy from being made, but anything that can be played on speakers can be mike'd and recorded on a computer.

Or, you can just take out the speakers and send the line-out from the stereo straight to the computer. And you won't have much loss in quality if you have good components.

those silly copyrighted CD's can be circumvented by blacking out the outer rim with a felt tip.

i burn CD's until i can get the real copy.
