Australian Idol 2007

Bad. Really, really bad.
Not even High Voltage could save it from being the worst single night of Australian Idol that I have ever seen.

Yes, it was woeful. I actually liked the kid singing Led Zep, but it was all downhill from there. He and the black girl are the best.

I like 90% or so of Dicko's comments, but was shocked when he said to Mark that his rendition of High Voltage was rockin....it was shithouse. That guy isn't rock. He is tame and lame.

I have always been a fan of Idol, but this year the average talent is by far the lowest ever. Most local gigs I attend feature more vocal talent than these no hopers who are supposedly the best Australia has to offer. Pah.

Matt sang Led Zeppelin as if they had no lead, though. Seriously, to sing that song you have to be really on the brink of losing it. Robert Plant has one of the best controlled rock voices of all time. It's really, really hard to sing any Led Zeppelin song, but if you are going to do it, you have to go nuts. None of these people have much experience as far as I'm aware. That counts for a lot.

Perhaps the public now realises that winning Idol isn't exactly a surefire way to make it (only a handful have gone on to do much), so the ones with talent are doing it the traditional way, thus leaving the show with shitter quality singers?

The public doesn't realise squat. If it did, this show would have tanked after the first series. As for legitimately talented people, there have been quite a few of them on the show over its course. Strangely, most of the purely talented ones haven't made it through (well, it's actually not that strange), because the competition isn't geared to find particularly talented people, but people who would be enormously popular. Remember, it's backed by the world's biggest record company. They aren't interested in talent, they're interested in a marketable product. Quite a lot of the people who've been on the show have used it to get some attention for themselves, and in a few cases it's worked.

Yeah when I said the public, I should have said "the section of the public that might consider auditioning". If I was an aspiring singer, I wouldn't be auditioning for Idol.

Yeah, a few truly talented people have been in the top twelve, but mostly in the first two years. Last year was a bit better when they opened it up to kids with guitars (Bobby Flynn FTW!) but this year... sheesh. Woeful.

We seem to be forgetting to verbally attack the stylist as well - dude, trenchcoats aren't rock. He didn't have a clue, that bloke.
[
It's disco night this week. I wonder if they know what disco is - they sure didn't know what rock was. But I won't be watching to find out, so it don't bother me none.

I just hate the forced nature of this show. Everything is so polite and clean and rehearsed....

Like that Marty dude...... He says he doesn't feel comfortable singing without his guitar.
Well take your friggen guitar up on stage with you.
Not allowed?
Fuck em. Who gives a shit.
It's fuckin rock night and you aren't going to take a guitar on stage cause it's against the rules.... Oooooh. Better not do it then... That wouldn't be very rock!

I think this isn't the first time I've said this, but this whole series is a train wreck. Dicko's already said that BMG is only going to sign the winner, which means the others will have to go back to singing in front of the mirror again, and judging by what they've "discovered" so far, I can see the head A&R guy at BMG getting really anxious. If this show wasn't on Ten it would have been buried by now.
