It will be interesting to how many of those people voting with some kind of agenda (those who thought it was time to have a girl, or a non-attractive non-stereotyped singer, or whatever other motive was involved in not voting for the most marketable, talented or career-promising artist) will follow through with a purchase. I don't see sympathy votes or agenda-motivated votes translating to sales over the long term, although I'm surte the instant success factor will be great for a while. I personally feel that Australia has just voted the next Scott Cain and not a career-sustaining artist. I know that 14 years old girls at home probably don't concern themselves with such things, and I'm sure I should give up my long held notion that talent warrants reward, and lack of it warrants work, not recording contracts. I feel certain that a loss would have inspired Casey to work hard, dig deep and work on all her flaws as a performer, but with a win does it not send the message that everything's great as is?
The lesson, kids, is regardless of how hard you work, how talented you are, how marketable you are or how much better you suck up the nerves and deliver quality performances night after night, if you don't draw in the public and make them your bitch, someone with less of all those things with rip out the rug from underneath you.
