I was at the gym, and someone decided they REALLY wanted my super cool jacket that was in my car. Unfortunately, I accidentally locked the doors, so they had to bust my lock. I would offer them an apology, but they took my wallet, radio and phone for restitution.

Sometimes, you're just sitting around, minding your own business, and life is a motherfucker and just happens to want to drop an anvil on your head and there's nothing you can do about it. Combined with getting sued for an accident that happened over 1.5 years ago, a less than optimal situation involving pay/benefits with my job, and well, whatever else this month has thrown at me, my car got broken into tonight and the theives took my stereo, my work phone, my wallet, and my jacket (it was cold too).

Having just watched the Dark Knight today, this particular image came to me easily. Silly theraputic MS paint.

Sorry that happened to you. I know how you feel. Sometimes I just want to leave all the doors unlocked so if they decide to steal shit at least they don't cause damage.

That sucks man. I'm really paranoid about people breaking into my car. I'd rather they just steal it than fuck it up by breaking into it. As a result, I never leave anything visible in the car, ever. We went to a Christmas party last weekend and about 3 hours in I realized my wallet wasn't in my pocket. I broke out in a cold sweat because I knew I left it sitting in plain view on my front seat witih $300 in it. I ran out there, and it was still laying there. <whew> I won't do that ever again.

Bummer man... That sucks... I've had my car broken into once. They broke my window and took my stereo... The stereo no big deal but that glass was rattling around in my door for years!! Every time I thought I had it all, another piece would make it's way free and I'd have to pull the panels off... what a pisser!

That sucks - I as well make sure that my car is pretty sparse, and I leave things like a jacket in the trunk, so it's out of sight. I always hide or take my Sirius radio off of the mount as well.

You can be sued for an accident that happened over a year ago? Wow.

In the state of IL, people have up to a year to press charges. Once that year has passed, they're SOL. I guess Arizona is a lot more lenient about that sort of thing. Sorry to hear about all that B.S., nailz. :(

Yipp: Is that when I caught you coming back inside, and you blamed me for the weather?

That truly sucks....and so close to Christmas, too.

I've had my car broken into twice. You always feel unclean afterwards.

The first time, while parked in a downtown parking lot -- the thieves became the proud owners of a bag full of old swimming attire and some cheap diving masks. Uh, congrats?

The second time was a "professional hit": I'd had a reallllly nice stereo system installed at Circuit City, but unfortunately I trusted them, and I used a credit card to pay for it, so they had my address. And the type of car I had, and the fact that it didn't have an alarm on it.
Six days later, and only moments after I arrived home from work at 11:30pm or so, someone punched a hole in the driver's side door, removed the head unit from the dash, went through the back seat into the trunk, and removed the 10-disc changer. The cop who took the report said it was all over within a minute, and since I'd come back outside less than five minutes later and discovered the break-in, I knew it was true.

I learned my lesson after State Farm kindly replaced the stereo:
NEVER give your stereo installer your address.
--And never again shop at Circuit City.
That last vow will be easy to keep now since they're going under.
My heart bleeds......not.

Shitty. Well, it was a work phone, which they will replace for me for $50, they left my old deck in my car, so i'm using that until someone steals it (front door doesn't lock anymore), I found an old license I had, so that's covered, I had a backup wallet, and I don't carry cash, so really, I'm out $100 for the deck which was about a year and a half old, a $30 cabella's jacket, and about 3 hours of my time.

I know the thieves are probably nothing more than tricked out meth heads, but they did take my phone and my license, which had my xmas vacation plans and my address, respectively, so we're staying home and re-schedualing the vacation plans now. So I'm out seeing the family for xmas. *shrug*.

I'm more annoyed than anything else, but I'm thankful they ripped out the stereo somewhat professionally, they didn't trash my car, which was cool.

man I'm really sorry to hear about the stuff you're going thru!!!

What is it with this time of year that everything seems to fall down around our heads!?!?!

Man, that really blows. Sorry to hear it. :(

Paul, that wasn't your Escort that got broken into, was it? I was just joking with Urban the other day that I always buy cars no one wants to break into (after we *gulp* left it unlocked one night). I know at one time Escorts were like one of the lowest as far as theft of the cars themselves.

Unless someone's a Marillion fan, can use a 5-year-old road atlas (what's left of it) or wants $2-3 in change, maximum, anyone who breaks into my car is going to be sorely disappointed. :p

It was AN Escort -- the 1994 black hatchback I had before I bought the ZX2 that you're....oddly familiar with. :)

Remember, it was a professional hit. They knew that they'd installed a $650 stereo into a car that had no built-in alarm and could be easily entered via punching a hole in the door, and then the 10-disc changer would be easily accessible through the back seats since they folded down. It could have been any car, they just waited 6 days after they installed it, and then waited for me to get home from work. I was working late, so I'm kinda hoping they had to wait for hours.

They were also THE world's most popular car for a time...so you gotta figure there's not much novelty value there, whether you're in Roswell, Rio or Rome. :)
