cannibal corpse- i will kill you. i was at a time when i was a teenager, and didnt listen to music so i was exploring. and i didnt like DM at first, but i was fascinated by it and eventually it grew on me.

other bands that helped, Slayer, Death, ATheist. old mans child.

i guess Dissection - The Somberlain got me into more of the black/death metal style....

maybe Cattle Decapitation - Karma Bloody Karma. but im not sure if thats exactly death metal.

Carcass Wake up and Smell(best of) when it first came out I was hooked.
I took a break for a few years and then heard Opeth's Deliverance(the song) it was ON for me.
As far as black metal...hmmm probably Immortal Sons of the Northern Darkness album.
