Bands/albuns that changed your life

I'd say
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
At the Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
Refused - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent
Texas Is The Reason - Do You Know Who You Are
At The Drive-in - In/Casino/Out

It was quite different for me, I started to actually listen to music when I was 7, my brother had a few friends at home
who listened to Metallica, Blind Guardian and Iced Earth (got the CDs from their dad). So the first record I ever bought
that changed my view on music was Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" - I was 7 years old and this kicked major ass!
So from that time, I knew that the stuff I like the most was sorted under "hard'n'heavy" in the local music shop.

The second album I've ever bought went quite extreme - Hypocrisy's "Osculum Obscenum", I saw the cover and I was
amazed, I had no clue how to read the name of the band, what kind of music they play or whatever, but it was right
after christmas, so I had some money left.
Told the cashier I'm buying the record for my 16 year old brother (my brother was actually 10 back then :D ) because
he didn't want to sell it to me due to the extreme cover.
Started listening to it with headphones and that record just crushed me, no clue how to describe it, it was sick, from
that point I fell in love with extreme metal.

At the time when I went to high school and all my friends started listening to "heavy" stuff aka Limp Bizkit, Offspring and
so on, I already listened to Slayer, Cannibal Corpse and stuff like that on a regular basis.

The next record that amazed me was "Follow the leader" by Korn, it wasn't as heavy as the stuff I was used to, but twisted
in it's own way.

Besides that, some of the records that really changed my mind on music are the following:
Opeth - Deliverance
SYL - Alien
The Safety Fire - Grind the ocean
Soilwork - Stabbing the drama
Seasick Steve - Best of
Jamiroquai - Travelling Without Moving

Well first and foremost I have to mention Metallica. It's the first band I really liked since I was a child, and Master of Puppets and the Black album really got me in love with the genre. They are still pretty much the standard for Metal writing and production for me.
Then albums like Wages of Sin by Arch Enemy, The Jester Race by In Flames and Storm Of The Light's Bane by Dissection got me into extreme Metal, a whole different world and a whole different way of playing the guitar and riffing.
I also have to mention Summoning's Stronghold and Oathbound. I've listened to them for so many times and they influenced me emotionally and melodically on so many levels that I feel these albums became part of me and of my work.

Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake: WOW, what a kick in the head that album was for me. Just ferocious playing and musicality between those guys and brutal as shit to boot. My guitar playing changed so much after getting into LoG.

Same here dude! I'd have to go with As the Palaces Burn though because I pounded it into my head right when it first came out...I was on a job in Chicago and brought a few CDs with me, and for some reason LoG was the only one that played in my discman.

Nirvana - Nevermind......this is basically what made me want to pick up the guitar and was the first band to really get me INTO music other than just listening to whatever my mom played in the car.

Veil of Maya - The Common Mans Collapse......for some reason this album got me through a rough year or so with my ex-girlfriend and a rocky-as-fuck 5 year shitty fucking relationship.

Great to hear some similar stories. While I understand many albuns that were mentioned, others dont say much to me.

Like Insomnium, I love some good melodeath and they are good but very overrated. Yesterday I tried to listen to their last album and I was bored to death, couldnt even finish the album and it´s the 3 album that I hear from them. Matter of opinion, I guess.

Totally forgot to mention

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

I guess it was just me being the 16 year old stoner, playing guitar in my bedroom, stoned out of my mind.....it just brings me back to those times every time I listen to it. Such an amazing album.

You're not alone, the past 2 albums are terrible imo.

Sum 41 - Does this look infected
Metallica - Puppets
Trivium - Ascendancy
SYL - Alien
Meshuggah - Obzen
Erra - Impulse

Good to know that I am not the only one. Across the dark its probably the best I heard of them, still the riffs and compositions are quite standard for the style, nothing stands out as great. One for Sorrow, Shadows of the Dying Sun, are the others I heard. Correction, this last one I tried to heard but due to very boring melodies, I couldnt.

Anyway, there is any album that you could recommend of them? Still curious to know why there is so many hype around this band.

"Above the weeping world" is my favo.
Haven't gotten into the last few new ones yet.

hmm, can't really remember, as a kid i was listening to random "pop" music i think, then some day i heard the S&M version of "Nothing Else Matters".
this actually made me pick up my dad's guitar and somehow i instantly managed to play the intro the first time i tried it.
so basically i'd say it's "S&M" but MEtallica in general definitively changed my life!

Here's an overkill list of albums that had an impact to my musical side. What can I say, I listen to music almost the whole time I'm awake (I actually used to listen to music when I was sleeping, got out of that habit though).
Couldn't really pinpoint just a few albums since each and every has their own spell on me. Lets just say here's SOME of the albums I've listened the most (millions of times).
Don't worry, I own about 80-90% of them physically, would like to have them all though haha.

I didn't include some of the important albums (believe me, I tried to cut these down multiple times) but there's a lot more hahaha. :D
