I threw Metal Health by Quiet Riot the other day and I was so disappointed. There are a couple of good songs, but I used to love that whole album. I thought it was about the coolest thing in the world for a while. But it really kind of sucks. Slick Black Cadillac's a good song, but thanks to the internet, I know that live version with Randy Rhodes, so the original version of that gem is ruined for me.

I don't know, it just struck me as the kind of thing alot of people my age might be going through.

Most of all the bands I used to love I still love now...though I have learned to look at bands and musicians in a different light. It's hard to explain, but take Motley Crue for example. One of my favorite bands of all time. Back in the day you wanted to BE one of the Crue or at least live life looking up to them as if they were larger than life and if you ever met them they would become your buddies and like you and you'd hang with them forever. (or was that just me?) Now you've got Vince weighing in at 350 lbs. Tommy beating whoever he's with, Nikki having sex with she-males (see recent Howard Stern interview with Donna D'Errico) and Mick Mars on his last legs. They are not cool off of the stage, folks. They're still one of my favorite bands, but I certainly don't look up to them. Does this make sense? I see what you're saying, METU, but I guess I compare a lot of bands to Santa Claus. If you really think about them you can see it was all just a "show"...the magic is when you can get lost in the music...and could care less about the individuals making it. Hell I don't know if I made any sense or not. Sorry

I guess I can say I still like the bands that I liked when I was a teen, because since my mother forbid my sister and I to listen to the radio, I didn't get to listen to metal until I was 15 when I no longer lived with either parents. By the time I was 15, thrash metal came upon us, so that's what I was into first. I look back now, and kindof look at my nutjob mom's stupid rules as a blessing in disguise. Even though no radio till 15, I have made up for lost time the last 15+ years!!! :headbang:

Bands I loved as a teen but don't like now:

Quiet Riot would be one...
Early Megadeth. (pre-Rust in Peace)
pre-Bush Anthrax.
SOD abnd MOD

I had pretty good taste when I was a teen. Most of the hair bands I liked like White Lion, Ratt etc. still sound god because they had bitchin' axe slingers. To this day, Vito Bratta is still one of my favorite guitarists and I actually like Mike (Tramp's) voice as well.

There´s really no bands for me that I liked when I was younger that I like less nowadays. There are a lot of bands I listened to more often in younger days than I do now but I think that just has to do more with the fact that I am always getting new stuff and have lots of things to listen to than not liking them anymore.

The three bands that this most appiles to for me would be...

Metallica
Aerosmith
Scorpions

all of these bands actually don't seem as great great to me today, as they were in my youth. However I think this is actually due to the fact that they all drastically changed their musical styles later in their careers... and all for the worst in my opinion. This seemed to change my mind a bit about their older stuff as well, don't misunderstand though, I do still own some of the old stuff on disc. It just seems more jaded to me now, as though they stabbed their fans in the back by becoming something more for the corporate masses.. or whatever.

However... on the other hand. Two bands that have never lost thier luster for me, and have only gotten better with time are...

Slayer
and
Testament

Yes they may have released albums that may or may not have been up to speed for them, but they always remained true to their fans... and didn't drastically change their sound for the sake of album sales.

Just my humble opinion.

I love Slayer and Testament, but I have heard many people trash God Hates Us All and The Gathering so I don't know if it's staying true to their fans as much as it's playing what the hell they want because they are enjoying everything.

Any way, I used to be into some stupid music when I was younger. I listened to Green Day and the Offspring alot, but then about 14 my friend brought over Master of Puppets and I was hooked and I've been listening to Metallica since then.

They're not metal but the first band to come to my mind would be Jane's Addiction. I loved the first 2 albums back in the day but they did not hold up well over time. The first one is still listenable (maybe once every year or 2) but Nothing Shocking sounds all thin and crap like to me now, and everything after that was shit to begin with. :)

Quite Riot would go for me as well, but also Tankard and Suicidal Tendencies. And especially, not really metal though: New Model Army. I used to love em, went to every concert I could, but meanwhile .....

No need for sorries Ted I too am a big Motley Fan and When I was a Kid I wanted to be Nikki Sixx lol That all makes complete sense to me :p

I can't believe I missed this one:

Guns-N-Roses. They suck !!! The band, less vocals is not bad, but I can't stand to hear Axl's voice. This started a long time ago. As much as I loved "Appetite," even in the early nineties I had had more than enough of AXL. The guy gets on my last nerve.

For me it has always been the other way round. There were many bands I didn't like at first but got into later. The only example of a band I appreciated years ago and don't like anymore that I can think of right now is Asphyx. When I was 15 I had this the-heavier-the-better attitude and thought Death Metal could never suck. So I bought The Rack and listened to it for hours, days and weeks because I thought eventually it would grow on me. Boy, was I wrong!

Allot of the bands I like the most are like that, it took me a while to get into them but now I love 'em.

I'll go with Guns N Roses for the first album thing. After that they went down hill, trying to big bigger than they were if you know what I mean. They were a great hard rock band at first that ended up thinking they were "artists".
