If your point is that guitars aren't important either, I agree. I don't think any instrument is more important than any other and there are all kinds of music to illustrate this.

My counter-proposal is this:

Bass and drums are more prominently featured instruments than the guitar. You can have a full jazz quartet that is completely guitar-free, but there needs to be a bassist (or a left-hand heavy pianist) and a drummer to hold down the rhythm. Dnb is a genre in and of itself. Bass is a part of the symphony orchestra.

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

I'm just going to argue technicalities now, cos I pretty much don't really care. Prominence of drums and bass is arguable, they aren't up the front, they are rarely focused on - there are exceptions, but rarely are they the lead instrument.

A violin, cello or piano are probably more prominent across the spectrum. That is, of course, ignoring woodwind or brass instruments and their roles - tuba can quite easily replace a bass/double-bass.
