I think "thrashier" pretty clearly means "carrying more of the defining characteristics of thrash metal," or in layman's terms faster, more time changes, more riffs.

The only thing that really sucks about the Bay Area right now is the lack of a quality place in the south bay, and one in the east (like One Step Beyond (club Hell), Cactus Club, Omni, etc...)

Places like Lindsays or the place in Livermore just don't cut it, IMO.

Other than that, the bands are here.

I agree totally. IMO, I thought One Step was great. I hated the hell line
at the Omni....especially in that crackhead neighborhood. I did get to meet
John Tardy standing in line for Obituary once. That was pretty cool.
I guess all the Cactus Club shows could get soaked up by the Usual. It's a
bigger joint, and it's a bit cleaner.

they caught me smoking weed off a certain someone's pipe but they searched
me and couldn't find it so I got to see Saxon!


I wish I was half the legend that Henry Moreno is. Remember St.Patricks Day
in Downtown Sunnyvale?

I'm not going to get into this full throttle.......but their are alot of Melodic Death Metal bands out there, and alot of them have changes, enough riffs, and do get faster......I've said it before, you don't have to play 100 miles an hour(all the time), for it to be "good"......the melodic parts, just break it up for me, gives it substance, its still heavy, its still Metal......And there are so many different styles within this genre(MeloDeath)......that it does not get repetive or boring to me, and for alot of other people also........Ya know Pyrus, your still young(age)...and others like Off Nice, & myself, have been listening to thrash since its conception, you have not been listening to Thrash for years, your a new comer, and that means its new, fresh, and the all for you, but as you get older, you just don't listen to one genre, you expand your tastes, and are forever influenced by tharsh....... but that genre ran into a dead end.... for years bands just were not doing that type of Metal(as much), took a break, now its rejuvenated, and I'm all for new material & music, but I could'nt just listen to the same albums over & over again(and just been waiting), for you its rather new.......for me I continue to evolve........and MeloDeath is one just Avenue I took, and my favorite at the moment.........And lets not forget these MeloDeath bands are all really influenced by Thrash, thats the origin of their sub-genre......they've evolved just like me......Sweden Rules.......just by the numbers.......The Bay area still has the big name Thash Bands, but no where near what Sweden has in so many different types of Metal & different styles.....of Metal......

If you ask me, the essence of thrash is a couple of guys in their teens trying as hard as they can to play as fast as they can, as wild as they can, as loud as they can, and as metal thrashing mad they can and succeeding. Add to this lyrics that are something on the lines of ANTICHRIST! ANTICHRIST! ANTICHRIST! and the perfect formula's complete. Luckily some people have been able to keep this spirit as they grew older and better at their instruments, while many seems to think that music is about playing difficult stuff or heavy stuff or stuff that brings in loads of dollars instead of raw emotion.
Political messages, singing about thrashing stuff, how great thrash metal is, tormenting people etc is also great, as are hauntings, going really really fast, fish that eat people and so on.

Thrash metal is, as all other music is (or at least should be) all about feeling... The 'atmosphere' (not a very fitting word, maybe?) of the metal command, the bond of blood betweed the thrashers, the pit and all that comes with those things.

Different music communicates through different channels, black metal, for instance aims directly at the dark corners of the mind and death metal to the twisted chainsaw-using serial killer we all carry within, power metal to the homosexual side of the people that listen to it and so on, and thrash brings out the beer-drinking, headbanging metal thrashing madman within us all.

I hope I didn't say anything stupid now, I don't think so, but you never know with me.
