If you grew up listening to metal in the 80's, you know exactly what the Bay Area had to offer.
I still love, and listen to this stuff regularly.

Dude, I'm a Bay Area nut. Forbidden is my favorite band. Just FYI, Flotsam is from Arizona (same place Sacred Reich is from). Great stuff.

Too bad Eric A.K. left, and they split up though. The last album was awesome, and I was a faithful devotee.

The dude from BNR told me they were done.

That totally fucking sucks. They were one of my favorite bands.

I loved the early BAY AREA scene with classic METALLICA MEGADETH, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, VIO-LENCE (led to MACHINE HEAD),EXODUS, HEATHEN, DEATH ANGEL, MORDRED also(maybe not bay area BUT STILL GOOD THRASH) ANTHRAX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, SACRED REICH, CYCLONE TEMPLE, ANNIHILATOR, GOTHIC SLAM (remember them), LAAZ ROCKET. I still love TESTAMENT, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, AND my current faves are SKINLAB and MACHINE HEAD.

For good modern Bay Area stuff, check out Prototype and Antithesis. It isn't as good as Forbidden or Testament, but it's still good and has a similar style.

A good current bay area metal band, though not thrash in the least, is Slough Feg (or The Lord Weird Slough Feg). Honor metal! Fucking great!
