i wouldn't have had a problem with it if it was released by THE IHSAHN EXPERIENCE FEATURING HIS MERRY BAND OF SYNTHESIZERS but no, it had to be passed off as being an emperor album, released as such even with the knowledge that emperor was already done. very fake and calculated, the whole deal.

also even disregarding the cynical nature of the album's release, the music both fucking sucks and fucking blows.

Anthems was mostly Ihsahn as well, actually. Samoth was locked up for the most part of the writing period while Ihsahn wrote most of it at his parents' farm. Difference is that back then he was an inspired young METAL musician instead of being the "classical virtuoso" he would later become. He actually told me face to face backstage in '99 that he had completely stopped listening to any metal and lost passion for it. I'll still give his new one a shot though, in recent interviews he claims to have returned to his earlier style.
