Now that 06 is winding down I thought it would be nice to compile some of the best releases of 2006. I personally think this was a fairly dissapointing year. Ill list my favorites and also the albums I was most dissapointed with.

In no particular order.

BEST OF 06
With Oden On Our Side - Amon Amarth (There wasnt a doubt in my mind about this one)
Inhuman Rampage - Dragonforce (gets a bit boring after a while)
The Black Waltz - Kalmah (A pretty solid album but i miss the old vocals)

BIGGEST LET DOWNS
Dragonheads - Ensiferum (The loss of jari Mäenpää is quite apparent, I still have high hopes for the next album though)
Rocket Ride - Edguy
Come Clarity - In Flames (Not suprised)
Above the Weeping World - Insomnium (Nothing special about this one)
The Dead Eye - The Haunted (The fact that such a great band with so much potential ends up sounding like trivuim is depressing)
Till Death Unites Us - Norther (Very unhappy with this one)

Theres also alot to look forward to...
Time - Wintersun
??? - Arsis

I know im forgetting (or have overlooked) alot of great releases this year and thats why Im making this thread i guess. Hopefully this will result in something new to listen to.

I just kept away from the bad releases. If its a band I don't like already I know not to listen to their new material.

Releases I've enjoyed a lot:

Folkearth - By the Sword of My Father
The Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Borknagar - Origin
Amorphis - Eclipse

The best releases this year for me are:

Ensiferum - Dragonheads
Korpiklaani - Tales along this road
Bathory - In Memory of Quorthon
Amon Amarth - With oden on our side
XIV dark centuries - Skithingi

Was the Enslaved Album "Ruun" released this year? Then this is also one of my favourites.:)

Let's hope that "time" by Wintersun is getting very good!

Good:
Black Label society- Shot to Hell
Deicide- Stench of Rdemption
Agalloch- Ashes Against the Grain
Slayer Christ Illusion(not amazing but still prettycool)
Cannibal Corpse- Kill
Vader- Impressions in Blood
Enslaved- RUUN

Bad:
Suffocation-Suffocation (notbad, just boring)
Lamb of God- Sacrament (some good stuff, some boring)

The best of 2006:
Summoning - Oath Bound

Runner Up:
Enslaved - Ruun
Devin Townsend - Synchestra
Ihsahn - The Adversary

Disappointing:
Satyricon - Now Diabolical (I loved Volcano, and thought it would be like that)

I haven't picked up the new ones from Amon Amarth, Blind Guardian, Agalloch, Vader, or Borknagar yet though (Plus plenty of others).

Best:
WOOOS - Amon Amarth
Inhuman Rampage ) Dragonforce
Beyond Fear - Beyond Fear

OK:
21st century killing machine - One man army and the undead quartet

Expected Better:
A matter of life and death - Iron Maiden

Looking Forward to:
Sons of Odin - Manowar
United - Dream Evil

Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Gadget - The Funeral March
Insomnium - Above The Weeping World
Sleep Terror - Self Titled
Dim Mak - Knives of Ice

Arsis's new album shall be killer
also Vader's Impression in Blood and Dethklok!

Never been a fan of the Haunted. Ever since there first release in 98'

Bal Sagoth- The Chthonic Chronicles
Satyricon- Now, Diabolical
Mastodon- Blood Moutain

can't think of anymore, and I havent bough WOoS yet.:erk:

Finally, someone who likes this awesome band. The 2nd album really sounds better than the first one (sound quality), but they remastered the old one.

I bought the first album when it was first released a couple of years ago and to this day I listen to it at home or on my iPod at least once a day. Every song on the album is just excellent excellent stuff.

The new album is awesome. There is more metal influence then viking/folk but it is mixed in so well that it flows just the same as the first album. I think I might like the first album better still.

I've heard the re-mastered version of A Nordic Poem and I wasn't interested in purchasing it at all. I was hoping it would have gotten a good treatment like the reissuement of SYL's Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing, but sadly it just sounds like the master volume was turned up. :Smug:

and apart from AA im always late about purchasing new albums but i'll just put the new AA as one of the best 2006 releases :)
(i'm not at home so i have difficulty remembering the 2006 albums i bought.. latest Enslaved was disapointing as well as Satyricon... thats all i remember for this year).
