what do you reckon is the best chord change?
example: Dminor to C in the drapery falls
or the discordant chords in the leper affinity then the bar chord

i like dm to c very much too...
it's so standard :D
but i only like it so much in drapery falls... in another context i wouldn't think "woah that sounds great"

God, I have to say Drapery Falls too, but in the second chorus, where it switches into the "ahhhhhh" part. That chord change just comes out of fucking nowhere, and it always reminds me of something the Beatles would've done. great tune.

at around 10 minutes in BRI, that acoustic part. Not the very first one but when it changes to the slightly more upbeat sounding acoustic thing, when the drums start to come in.
and also the Dm to C in Drapery Falls. I don't know why but the way the heavy part just suddenly stops and leads into that is so striking, even though they're simple chords.
The end of Moonlapse Vertigo has really nice chords.
When it changes to that acoustic part in When before the "Once inside..." part

When it kicks into 'The rain was waving goodbye...' part of April Ethereal.

First two chords of Face of Melinda.
4:25 of Face of Melinda. The two chords that bring in the heavy part.

6:04 of Blackwater Park. From the octave chords into the open D.

What an amazing thread! hmmm, well i just would have to say i love how masters apprentrices goes to the part "into death." The change there is just so soothing... I mean it's by no means the most suprising chord change, but just how it's done is perfect.
