Best controllers?

Will see where the years take me from there... outboard first, controllers later.

If you want to do a direct sale rather than the eBay listing DigitalMetal, let me know.

Cheers!

Well i wasnt really sure what to sell it for, so i put it on on ebay for auction with a start price of £100 there are 8 people watching it right now.
A new one is £150 from DV247 here in the UK so i thought that £100 was a fair start price considering its in "as new" condition - original packaging etc.
i checked on shipping to Australia and its gonna be £40 so it might be cheaper for you to get one more locally surely?

I've got an Alphatrack and love it. Got it brand new off ebay for £75 :)

Good driver support, zero latency and its sped up my general work flow a fair amount

Only complaint is the buttons feel a little cheap but the touch sensitive shuttle strip is awesome! Fully customizable too :)

What about the STEINBERG CC121 CONTROLLER?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Bp7EI1kHA

Id be wary, Steinberg have the habit of bringing out hardware and only supporting it for about 10 minutes before discontinuing it,
I had a steinberg Houston and lost a ton of money on it,
Remember the Midex midi interfaces and the re-badged RME Nuendo hardware, The VSL2020, The ID Nuendo console?
- Where are they all now? :p

I know this is kinda irrelevant to you now Ermz, but for any others that might be contemplating...

I whole heartedly recommend the Euphonix gear. I've been running a Control with 2 Mix expansions for a little while now and once I'd got it configured to fit my workflow, it was like a whole new world. Couldn't imagine not having them now.

Cool, well I'll definitely keep them in mind if they ever do the PC support thing.

@AGZ: Faderport came with a broken driver CD. It also expected Windows to be online in order to find its compliancy drivers. So once I screwed around my DAW system to get it online, I then realized it couldn't find those drivers regardless. Then after a while the Faderport stopped being recognized by the OS altogether. Presonus are stuck in prosumer mentality... I never should've let something so cheap touch my studio. Brought it on myself there.

how about this one?

..another glorious use for the ipad for lucky logic users, probably near the price of the euphonix tho...i can only assume they will be bringing out a PT template if thats what you're using ermz!?

easy as pie to setup and working a treat...still use my faderport for the very fine volume automation tho..

This looks sexy! Don't have the money to blow on a fancy ipod touch though :P

You may want to erase the brand name off of it to make you feel better but honestly these look pretty cool

$150 bucks a piece, you can link them together via midi and they have motorized faders

I know its behringer but your audio never touches the thing, and they are cheap enough to not worry about them breaking/getting shit spilled on them.

People have made cool DIY housing units for them too

This is one of those times behringer may be the answer. But, I assume ermz is looking for something that will last until an upgrade down the track? Pushing those faders all day may only last so long! :)

Whenever i have a conversation about these kind of controllers i always think its best to know exactly what you want to do with it,
For me these Behringer units would not be any good because they have no screen above each fader to show you what channel/function you are about to manipulate.
Now this is fine if you have several units and you write on a scribble strip what each channel each fader is, rather like using an analogue desk,
but then of you flip the faders for plugin control or bank to a new group of faders you have no idea where you are again,
Ive only ever bought controllers that have a screen and more recently touch sensitive fader that show you your parameter just by touching the fader cap but not actually moving it.
Now i know my MC control doesnt have a screen above each fader but the touch sensitive faders get over this as ive explained above.
If all you want a controller for is to control faders then the behringer might be fine,
But i want more from a controller, i want to try and replace the mouse and KB and speed up my workflow, personally i could work faster with a mouse than use a behringer.

if you are on a super budget I would say ones worth looking out for second hand would be:

Mackie control/Logic control V1 - (fairly cheap average build quality) uses HUI Emulation
Radikal SAC2K - great build quality uses HUI Emulation
Mackie HUI - great build quality uses HUI protocol
CM Automation MotorMix - great build quality uses HUI protocol
