Best Guitar Tone on an album

Extreme metal doesn't usually get too much attention as it pertains to tone, so I'm guessing we'll be getting more of like, thrash, groove or some of the more polished mainstream guitar sound death metal, but I don't think anyone's going to mention fkng Brodequin here...

In terms of modern production and tone, Admiral Angry just fucking kill it.



My favorite tone of all. Sounds like fucking liquid

pretty massive sound indeed. Had no clue they went for this sort of massive sound on their comeback, very different from the last time I heard them out (To Mega Therion ).

Admiral Angry: huh that's pretty cool stuff. The vocalist needs to smoke a bit of marijuana and read a book on Buddha, but the guitars sound gigantic.


Yeah to me Burn my Eyes for sure.


Sound of the 90's to me. So american, so 90's, that gigantic Peavey sound, dropped tuning post-thrash groove, all that. And the breakdown at the end (3:42). Never heard one note played over and over sound so good in my life, still to this day. I'd go crazy if it were 1994 and I was in the studio when this had just been mixed and mastered and I heard it. Never heard anything more in your face than that, Meshuggah play 13 strings and shit and these days there's insane tones everywhere, but this is just heavvvvvvyyyyyyy. Instantly makes you its bitch.

I love 90s riffing tonality like this band has. For falling under a nu metal label, these guys sound way more massive than the ball-less Nu Metal peers they have.

Obviously they used carefully placed top quality mic's to capture that audio track for the video and it must've sounded very different actually standing in front of the band in the crowd, but that is indeed a monumental live guitar tone.[/QUOTE]

Massiivvvvvvve. Hail Godflesh. Don't know their new stuff too well but the overall recording cleanliness is gorgeous on this: vocals, drums, guitars, but bass especially. "Mint" production as they'd say over there.

Fantastic guitar sound. Nu metal had some of the best guitar sounds I've heard.


Because the guitar tabs were dead simple and they catered to a much more mainstream young crowd they placed most of the emphasis on just sounding gorgeous. Those are songs that would appear in mainstream movies, shows, TV channels... they had to be squeaky clean. Static-X were basically flawless sonically speaking, that power chord in 'Cold' couldn't sound any better.

again not my favorite album of theirs, but that guitar tone in isolation is undeniable

13 is a fairly solid record. I think Ozzy's lyrics are fine the way they are. Its still sinister, reminding me of the B horror type aesthetic doom metal has. Iommi's riffs stand above the rest of the sound in the album and I adore that. Too bad Rick Rubin was the one to mix the damn album, the rest of it just kinda bleeds together.
