I would have to definately say, Blackwater Park. For a time being I couldn't listen to anything other than BWP from Opeth. BWP is definately the most accessible of their albums, the most pleasant sounding to the average listener and doesn't really follow the more death metallish formulas of their other albums.
Although now that I've worked my way backwards, their early albums are my favourites
For me it was BWP. Harvest > The Drapery Falls > Bleak > Opeth-Fan. But I have to say I didn't really like Death vox before. I guess if someone already likes melodic death, for example, something like Demon Of The Fall could be a great introduction as well.
hmm, i'd say Still Life, for me it was Morningrise and BWP simultaniously (sp?), i loved/still love the acoustic and instrumental/solos of Morningrise, and mixed with BWP's meloncholic Harvest and the drapery falls hooked me, the growls were always an 'iffy' thing for me as i'd never heard anything like them, now i dont know how i lasted without them.
I vote for Blackwater Park because I believe it is their easist cd to get into, whereas My Arms Your Hearse is their most difficult to get into, but still their best.
MAYH has worked like a charm for the 2 people i got into Opeth. Its the middle and you can tell, and people can either track back albums or explore the new ones and either way they are happy about it.
I'd say Orchid, considering it's their debut....fans should see how the band progresses with their style....even still, I wish they would go back and make something as extraordianry as Morningrise and Orchid. I MUCH prefer their older style, even though the newer style is pretty damn top-notch in itself.
But, I also can see why Still Life and Blackwater Park are winning this poll....the newer stuff is probably a lot easier for newbies to get into. I mean, BWP has brought a whole new load of Opeth fans.....
Blackwater Park, definitely...and in particular, "Harvest" and "The Drapery Falls". Three times I've played these two songs for my friends and two of them bought BWP.
Originally posted by ChokingParasite I'd pick "Still Life". It just has all of the Opeth elements. And I can tell you now, most people will say "Morningrise".
i picked "my arms your hearse". mainly cos that was the one that properly got me into opeth,, im definitely sure that if someone had never heard opeth ever and then heard "demon of the fall" they would instantly be in love .. but then i also guess that "blackwater park" is a good start, cos well, i was gonna say, cos of the nice bits that pull all kinds of listeners in, and then the heavy bits are more accessible for them, but still dark enough for the major lovers of death metally stuff .. but then i guess all their albums are like that!!! ..
i still think MAYH is the best opeth cd though .. but thats just moi!
