This "Satriani is a good player but a bad composer" argument is old and tiring and dumb, those who say this ever actually listened to "Flying In A Blue Dream" (for example)? One of the few occassions that the title is so descriptive about the music.

yes, Muhammed Suicmez is awesome. Jari Maenpaa is also kick ass time.

Although his recent work has been sub par, Alexi Laiho is up there as far as great metal guitarist. They guy has great runs and his rhythm is impeccable. And I by rhythm, I don't mean his rhythm guitar playing, I mean how well he plays on beat, unlike some one like Petrucci. I takes a certain ear to hear it some times, and I'm not trying to sound snobby, you just have to look for it. For Instance, Jeff Loomis can shred but when he really speeds up, it almost sounds a little 'off'. This is mostly evident in live recordings b/c they aren't protooled up. I'm not saying Loomis is crappy guitar player, I'm just saying his rhythm isn't as good as Alexi's. Yngwie and Zakk Wylde have great rhythm, although their playing tends to leave more desired b/c both fall into their respective runs that we've heard a thousand times. Next time when you listen, look out for what I'm talking about. Al DiMeola has incredible rhythm.

Either way, I don't nessarrily think he is the greatest guitarist in metal, but Chris Broderick from Jag Panzer made this video which makes my mind explode.

Muhammad Suicmez is my favorite and I think he is a great composer and player. But id have to say Joe Satriani is the best just becuase he is aknoledged as the best by so many and his musical talent has led to 17 solo albums.

Two stupid reasons to think someone is the best. Think for yourselves and not what others think and the # of albums made does not make someone the best.

I'm sorry, but Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are total fucking trash and are subsequently overrated. They are tasteless and tacky. I've never found anything the've done great. Yngwie's work, like his first 2 rising force albums, devastates all their crap. Marty Friedman, in his prime, shits Vai and Satriani's. Sat and Vai have no taste and it doesn't help that they dress like male prostitutes.
