Best of 2014 round up.

Cannibal Corpse is good at writing Cannibal Corpse songs. Unfortunately those songs rarely do much for me, there are usually 1 or 2 songs per album that I enjoy enough to listen to more than a couple times.

Agreed.
But CC has the best gigs ever tbh.

Update : The new Witherscape did not make it to my top list. :\

Now that is a metal fucking list if I ever saw one! :headbang:

I see no one's particularly happy with the new Opeth :(

Goblin should've been an Ocean's 14 soundtrack, River's simply gay but apart from those it's a decent CD no? I agree though, Watershed >>> Communion.

I haven't even given it a chance tbh, I was never the greatest of Opeth fans. They are (were?) a good band, one of very few bands that I think managed to combine growl and death metal parts with clean singing and more mellow parts in a really good way. And since that was the aspect I liked about them I have no interest in what they currently do...growl and death metal parts or gtfo! :)

Only good track is Faith in Others which is one of the best nonmetal tracks of 2014, but as an album, PC sucks. Eternal Rains didnt save it either.

A decent year for music, extreme metal interest declining as usual :)

1. Crosses - Crosses
2. Damien Jurado - Brothers And Sisters of The Eternal Son
3. Alcest - Shelter
4. Anathema - Distant Satellites
5. Benighted - Carnivore Sublime
6. Noah Gundersen - Ledges
7. Ghost Brigade - One With The Storm
8. Junius - Days of The Fallen Sun (EP)
9. Insomnium - Shadows of The Dying Sun
10. Helevorn - Compassion Forlorn

I haven't listened to it but people are saying Alcest have kind of gone too soft, what with the lack of extreme vocals and that. How did you like Shelter? :)

Based on some recommendations I've found on this topic and elsewhere, here are a few releases that I picked up and have been enjoying this week: Cretin - Stranger, Dimesland - Psychogenic Atrophy, Saor - Aura, Teitanblood - Death, tētēma - Geocidal

"Faith in Others" is such a great song. I agree though, that and "Eternal Rains Will Come" are the only two songs I really enjoy.

1. Crosses - Crosses

I enjoy this project, but some of their more upbeat songs tend to lose me. ("Blk Stallion" especially.)

"Ninety Ninety Four," though. That song<3

I see no one's particularly happy with the new Opeth :(

Here's the thing about it for me...

It was not bad. It had some tracks I thought were nice and pleasant (I did especially like the track "Goblin" as it did hit that 70's Italian giallo vibe that the BAND Goblin perfected so well), but there was simply not one track on there that resonated with me on a profound level.

There was nothing that made me go "yes. This is Opeth. This is why I love this band".

Previous albums delivered that.
It was better than Heritage, but it will be several albums before I think they re-hook me. For the time being, my interest in Opeth is on hiatus....and that makes me sad to say.
