Sales and influence wise, perhaps they were "B Company", but as far as the quality of the music, IMO, they beat them all, and deserved to be up there with them. It should have been the Big 5:Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer and Overkill. My opinion, of course.

My statement had NOTHING to do with sales, otherwise, this would be a METALLICA thread...
Like I said, Overkill is a great band, but they came "AFTER" the four, as did the others on my list...

Though actually Tecniclly Megadeth and Overkill came out at the same time

I prefer Anthrax overall but my rankings from two different eras would be as follows:

83-91
1. Anthrax
2. Slayer
3. Metallica
4. Megadeth

92-present
1. Slayer
2. Anthrax
3. Megadeth
4. Metallica

I'd have to say Slayer, simply because they have never compromised and have stayed the truest to their genre.

Metallica and Megadeth ought to be ashamed of what they are doing now (even though I am a HUGE fan of both of them), and Anthrax has always been kick-ass...but not in the same league as Slayer, Megadeth or Metallica...IMHO

Megadeth

If you look through history though (this may be a testament to me doing too much research, but hey, what can ya do?), Overkill wrote "Unleash The Beast Within" before "Hit The Lights" was written, which makes Overkill the first. And also, Metal Church had their Red Skies demo out around that same time, so Overkill and Metal Chruch were basically in the beginning. Metallica and Slayer just happened to be able to get albums out before them.
In this poersons humble opinion, to quote Overkill about themselves, "We were the first, won't be the last"

And Mustaines voice, yeah, its not good. But for the first few albums, for sheer attitude, he was unmatched. And Sean Killians voice sucked too, but like Mustaine for Megadeth, Killians voice fit Vio-lence perfectly.

Overkill's first album came out in 1985, the same year as Megadeth's,even though it was supposed to be out in 1984, the same year as Anthrax and Slayer's. And Overkill have actually been around since 1981. And who cares when they came out, anyway? If you do, you can clearly see they were around close enough to the big 4, but i can't see how that matters. In terms of musical quality, which i think is the ONLY thing that matters here, i think Overkill is the superior band over all 4 of those bands. The end, that's all she wrote.
