I don't know....I can't get into Morning rise, I don't get any vibe when listening to it, I don't have any inspiration to listen to it, and I kinda get annoyed with the bad prog changes. There never is a link to the next change they're going to make on that album. It's just usally a rest for 1 beat and then goes into some soft part and then back into heavy and they keep playing unconnected parts. It just seemed to badly structured in my opinion. although the bass lines are incredibly complex and fun to listen to, that's it really.

yep. took me a very long time to enjoy it. everyone has different tastes. after it "clicked" for me, i found myself actually *needing* to listen to it.

Personally I liked it the first 7 spins man. After that I couldn't stand it. Usally that's an album where you have to get used to but for me it was the opposite.

who cares if the transitions aren't perfect...mikael acknowledged that later on...thing is, the actual basic melody and riffs/melodies that construct the songs are beautiful. To bid you farewell is I think is perfectly put together song. It's like a jam of melancholy. watermeloncholy

MAYH number one. Easily. I might dare to be different and say that Deliverance gets second place...its a nice album. You cant deny a fair judgement is a great song, and wreath and by the pain i see in others are really hard hitting. Plus i LOVE the artwork, its so mysterious and dark.

I've always loved lots of diversity in music, and with Ghost Reveries, I get that. Not only that, the melodies are top notch, musicianship is superb, and the solo's are their best yet! They're experimenting more, and they even used a major chord progression in one song! To me, this is the Opeth album I've been waiting for.

win.

BLACK HORSE
That's a lovely avatar of Mikael, He kinda looks like Jesus.

oh and the alltime Opeth masterpiece is Morningrise though it had a rough competition with Still life. That's my opinion, don't crucify me.

What you just said about morningrise is what I think about still life. That damn SL album just seems boring and uninspired compared to all of the others. Some of the riffs are just plain irritating and go on too long (white cluster beginning part between the growls, moonlapse vertigo, the riff at the end right before "I turn away".) Plus benighted sounds like complete Bullcrap.. maybe the most boring song ever. It isn't as good as their others. I love morningrise but I respect your individual opinion. About moringrise yes it wanders a lot, I can see how you can get irritated by it. That is a weakness and sign of immature songwriting. But some of the parts on that album are just spectacular, especially the acustic parts. Peace.

Ghost Reveries is an INSANELY beautiful, kick-ass album. I'm just going to flat-out say it - it truly is almost on par with Still Life and actually ties MAYH I think. Damn, it's getting tougher and tougher deciding which opeth is the best of the best, since all the albums are so consistently solid.

I think now, it goes like this for me;

1. Still Life
2. MAYH
3. Ghost Reveries
4. Blackwater Park
5. Morningrise
6. Orchid
7. Damnation
8. Deliverance

And I agree, while the coverart is truly incredible for ghost reveries, the rest is not. Too fucked up for my tastes - reminds me of the game Silent Hill (which I do like), but man, it just seems overdone and out of place here. Oh well, whatever...I ESPECIALLY dislike the back of the jewel case. :(
