Best release by an 80s band... from this past decade?

Zod - Sorry, I think I may have confused what I meant to say.

What I meant was, IMHO, United Abominations gets highly praised, and I think that's because it was their first decent one in a LONG time. Still though, to me it doesn't qualify as a "best release" by an 80s band, tho just my opinion.

Go check out those 'Deth albums at your own RISK!

The one that I have personally enjoyed the most is...

Testament - The Formation of Damnation

The 80s thrash bands seem to be better at recapturing their old sound as opposed to the 80s hard rock bands. For the most part, current releases from 80s hard rock bands sound like crap.

Good point ... Overkill, Heathen, and Testament all have released from strong discs of late. Megadeth has also been on a bit of a roll of late as well.

Agreed on the 80's hard rock .. except for the latest Ratt and Winger discs.

My vote for best of the decade from and 80's artist ... tie .... King Diamond - The Puppet Master, and Jag Panzer - Thane To The Throne.

I like The System Has Failed and Endgame better than UA .. not even really close either.

Crazy. I seriously had no clue. Never heard a peep anywhere about this release here in the states. Seriously, not on TV, radio, newspaper, anywhere.

To me, it just seemed like it was released with very little impact.

Wow! You live in an even deeper hole than I do! :)

I saw NUMEROUS write-ups and reviews in several papers, Best Buy advertised the hell out of it, and had HUGE displays in store (heck, they STILL have dozens of copies in their racks, far more than almost any other disc)..... I remember discussions on the radio, plus music being played off of it, and I almost NEVER listen to radio.

Guess so! YEs, I have seen the BB display.
I listen to the LOOP (Chicago's Classic Rock station who plays GnR classics regularly). I can honestly say I don't think they ever played a new track from it. IF they did, maybe right when it came out.

I am not disagreeing with anyone. as I said, I seriously had no clue that album experienced any success whatsoever.

Fine... I'll listen to it again. :heh:
I'm surprised you found Endgame to be unlistenable ... it's really not all that different at all from UA in sound and style. I just think it's a stronger disc all the way thru, and overall is the strongest Megadeth disc since Cryptic Writing. I've always been a CW fan .. It's probably their most radio friendly, but it's got some really strong songs and is still heavy enough.

Artillery - When Death Comes

I don't know exactly where it would rank in my all-time faves relative to Terror Squad and By Inheritance, but it definitely makes that list of personal favorites.

Regarding Megadeth, I also like United Abominations and find Endgame boring.

I love both UA and Endgame equally. And as much as I love Broderick, I just reeeeally love Drover's solos on UA. Thats probably what keeps Endgame from passing UA in my book.

Morbid Angel:Gateways to Annihilation. I like a lot of the other choices people have mentioned, especially Gambling, but Morbid was the first one that jumped in my head.

This is a really great question because most of all the bands I listen to started in the 80's. It's going to be hard just thinking right now what to choose. It's close between-
Alien-Dark Eyes
Drive,She Said-Real Life
Pretty Maids-Wake up the Real World
Stratovarius-Infinite
There are so many I can't even think of right now,but without a doubt to me
Danger Danger-Revolve is number 1
