Dan Swano (in all his many audio manifestations) would be my vote (although, Mr. Vintersorg is climbing my mental list rather quickly). Katatonia, In Flames, Therion, etc. all get props as well.

I'm not going to repeat what everyone else said. You're all so right...
Just going to add that Andromeda is a great prog. band from around here (although they go a little electronic occasionally)... and then there's Nostradameus... and of course, lets not forget The Haunted (never got into their recordings too much, but man, they rock on stage).

Believe it or not... Metal isn't popular in Sweden. Ay, there are a lot of metal heads, but the only metal to hit the charts in HammerFall (with the singles Renegade -still wondering if I'm the only one who sees the resemblence to Steel Tormentor, by Helloween- and the ballad off of the same album; Always Will Be).
