best Swedish death metal album

I forgot about At the Gates - With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness. This deserves a mention as well, for tracks 2-5 which absolutely slaughter me.

Tracks 2-5 are definitely the best.

I would say Opeth-Morningrise.... however then a myriad smartasses would come out of the woodwork and inform me that Opeth is not death metal... That said, I will say Dark Tranquillity-The Gallery.

Dark Tranquillity is not death metal either, just look at the happy heavy metal Iron Maiden-inspired riffs. It is some weird hybrid of heavy metal and melodic death (?) metal. Help!

Yeah, Dark Tranquillity are not death metal; they play metal along the lines of earlier In Flames. I like them though.

Those five songs rule but as a whole the album is a bit hit and miss. Ranging from awesome to good. The other two I mentioned remain at awesome for the duration.

I third this. Put "Prodigal Sun" by Afflicted at #3.

Bathory and Sacramentum are the only Swedish BM bands worthy of mention. Funeral Mist is pretty good also.
