Blu-Ray or HD-DVD

Well, I guess I'll go buy a Blu-Ray player now. Might as well.
What's the most expensive one? :loco:

Interesting. The thing that strikes me about all this though, is that consumer spending on any post-theater format plays a role at all. I'm simply amazed that people will go out and buy, at a cost significantly more than at the box-office, movies that they may watch once or twice. With the advent of no-late-fee rental houses, there is simply NO REASON WHATSOEVER to purchase movies.

WHAT? There are SO many flaws in that argument, I don't even know where to begin.

Not really Ali. He's basically saying all you need is a $20 monthly membership to blockbuster. How many fucking times can one person watch "The Kingdom"?

Well I thought the argument being made is that there is no need to ever buy any movie. There is a whole world of movies outside of hollywood popcorn drivel: movies not released at the theater, either independent or old, and they may not even be sitting on the shelves at blockbuster either.

i have about 150 movies in my collection ... i ONLY buy flicks that warrant repeated viewings or that mean something personal to me.

Office Space does confuse me

Yes, but how many of these movies are unavailable for rent?

Zod

I watch my movies all the time... well not all the time, but alot.

I dig. But your lifestyle allows you to watch movies as often as you want. I used to watch Evil Dead and Big Lebowski once a week too but that was back in the 90s when I could pick up a used VHS copy for $5 - not a $30 Blu-Ray that requires a $500 Blu-Ray player and a $2000 1080p HDTV just to view it.
Don't forget, JayKeeley et al, that the true cost of your $30 Blu-Ray discs is actually hundreds of dollars a pop. And you think there's no argument for not buying movies?

My point was that you kinda have yourself in a situation where watching movies over and over at a ridiculous expense is your raison d'etre. Not everyone has that ability. Enjoy it while it lasts.

More importantly, can the Blues catch the Red Wings?

edit: :erk: just saw they lost to Columbus tonight

Interesting to read about who will win the format war. With Warners now on board Blu-Ray has certainly solidified its future and we will now begin to see other studios who were once sitting on the fence make their move.

I can see myself at some point in '08 getting a PS3 - not just for Blu-Ray but to play metal gear solid 4!
