Blu-Ray or HD-DVD

Watched 300 on Blu-Ray last night.... wow!

Zod

try a few more "conventional" flicks ... rahter than these recorded in HD already cheese fests ... with computer effects.

wonder how they translate and if there is any difference.

something like THE DEPARTED ... you know, real movies :loco:

I still see nothing wrong with an old fashioned, flatscreen, picture-tube television and a decent DVD player. It's sort of like when DVD burners came out and then OH NO 4.7GB wasn't enough to back up one's e-porn collection to avoid the fatal Daddy's Accidental Delete Sweep, you had to get dual layer burners. There comes a point in time when technology should just say "this level is more than good enough, now let's just make it cheaper as the years go by, and try not to dumb it down too much in the process." Maybe I'm just getting old.

How come you guys can go to the moon but you can't make my shoes smell good?

ja wirklich.

Anyway, anyone have experience with those Yamaha Digital Sound Processors - the ones with 40-odd speakers in one cabinet?

Blu-Ray has a similar deal, where you get 5 Blu-Ray discs of your choice.

HD-DVD is getting desperate, because they're losing the war. Even though Microsoft has been bribing studios for temporary exclusivity on their format (HD-DVD), it's not working. The PS3 is down to $400 and games are being launched that show it's capabilities. It's just a matter of time now.

I hate this fucking "war".

The PS3's only strength is that sony was smart enough to include Blu Ray. The 360 will always win in terms of games.

Anywho, I was tempted to pick up the $99 Toshiba A2 HD DVD player just for the price itself but I stopped myself. It's retarded that no matter which format a consumer goes for, they're getting dicked around because you'll only get certain movies on a certain format.

My only hope is that the combo players have a staggering price drop

That's simply not true.

When all is said and done, the PS3 is simply capable of more than the XBOX360. It's just a matter of time until there are new PS3-only titles that truly exploit the capabilities of the system.

Keep in mind, it was practically a full year until the XBOX360 (release date 11//22/2005) released it's first killer game (Gears of War, 11/12/2006). The PS3 was launched 11/11/2006. It's been a year, and we're now beginning to see some killer titles, which are PS3-only; Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, etc.

It's also worth noting, that the learning curve for developers on steeper on the PS3, due to the new Blu-Ray technology. But that technology allows for far greater data storage. It's just a matter of time until there are games for the PS3 that blow away the XBOX360 games.

If one has an XBOX, one can purchase an XBOX HD DVD player for $180.
The thing I'm confused about now is: I have cable with an HD package. It requires using the one set of component on my TV for the HD junk. So, now, I don't have any means of connecting my DVD player to the TV. My TV has two HDMI ports though, so they are going to waste. I was thinking of maybe getting an HD DVD player for my XBOX and using the HDMI port. What should I do?

Got any facts to back this up? HD DVD software slaes have been behind for a while but have been gradually increasing for the past 3 months. Microsoft and Toshiba have both expressed extreme denial of bribing Paramount and you don't have any proof of that. This war is FAR from over, and you know it.

Actually, that's not true. The sale of "Transformers" gave them a huge boost. However, that boost was short lived.

Microsoft and Toshiba have both expressed extreme denial of bribing Paramount and you don't have any proof of that.
Do I have a photo copy of a document with both CEO's signatures on it? No. However, it was widely reported. Beyond that, it's also a matter of common sense. If you're already set up to print titles in both formats, what reason could you possibly have for shutting down production of the format that was winning the war by a 3:1 margin?

This war is FAR from over, and you know it.
Over? Not yet... obviously, they're still selling HD-DVDs. And it won't be over until the last studio shuts down production of the HD-DVD format. However, Blu-Ray has several factors that continue to work in its favor:

1. A larger install base
2. A gaming system that actually offers HD games. Keep in mind, while you can buy an HD-DVD drive for an XBOX (which than makes it a more expensive system than a PS3), XBOX games aren't recorded on HD-DVD discs, so you can't play XBOX games in true HD.
3. A superior format. HD-DVDs hold 30GBs, Blu-Ray, 50GB.
4. Warner Bros. will most likely announce Blu-Ray exclusivity by the end of Q4.
5. As I said in an earlier post, PS3 is at the point in its life cycle where we can expect to see a bunch of PS3-only, killer games. This, in combination with the falling price of the PS3, will likely fuel sales of PS3s. Which will fuel sales of Blu-Rays. Which will fuel sales of PS3s. Etc.

Look, I'm not a long time Sony fan. I owned an XBOX360. However, it's becoming apparent, that unless something big happens, HD-DVD is going to lose this war.

By the way, is it your belief that HD-DVD is going to be the victor?
