Blu-Ray or HD-DVD

I absolutely see the value in vinyl, but VHS blows. With the widespread availability of regular-DVD format and the incredibly low price of high quality regular DVD players, there's no excuse for not making the switch unless you have a large library of VHS tapes and have no desire to re-purchase the movies - that's a different story.

No rewinding, better picture and sound quality, no having to fast forward through unwanted previews/commercials, less bulky packaging & longevity of storage = DVD FTW.

Agreed, but when I switched to DVD I got one with both a VHS and a DVD player - I have some tapes that aren't available/are hard to get on DVD that I really want to be able to watch, and old videos can be bought extremely cheap at many places - ideal to get classics you've missed (read: 80s action flicks). Plus I don't like to not have the option, and generally I don't give many fucks once I'm watching the movie (about quality as long as it's acceptable etc).

Hmmm... I wonder if because Sony is a Japanese company, if Japanese filmmakers will be more likely to release on Blu. Regardless, this not only looks like a cool movie, but one you'd want to watch in an HD format.

So I bought a PSIII, got my HDMI cable in the mail and now I need an LCD TV. I was thinking about the Samsung 4061. Anybody have an experience with this stuff?

and when the hell does stuff start going on sale for the christmas run?

i swear by anything made by Samsung ... you can't go wrong. They make great stuff as Sony did in the 80's.

however, you might have some convenience features as far as remote's etc would go if you get a Sony tv for your ps3

32 inchers in either brand should not set you back more than $900 right now.

yarp. Samsung is good. Krig, I have a 32" Samsung like Lurch is describing. It's a nice TV. 720p. October 2006 I paid $1300. Similar model should be around $1000 or less now.

Edit: you beat me to it.
Anyway, I wouldnt bother with anything more than 720p. There are few source materials in 1080 and unless your tv is 60 inches, you're not going to be able to tell the difference. Whats yer budget? A 720p 32" from brand A may be the better TV overall than a 1080i 40" from brand B. CNET is a great resource for this crap.

I want an LCD for the bedroom but 19" -26" are still aound $400-$700 which makes no sense ... so if i get a super deal in the next month for a 40 or 42" 1080p LCD I am moving my 32" to the bedroom ...

@ Zodster: Cable, which most people watch, maxes out at 1080i. There is no discernible difference between 1080i and 1080p. The vast majority of viewers wont even notice a difference between 720p and 1080p. For all intents and purposes, HD is HD. The difference lies within the individual TVs - not native resolution. There's a reason why a Pioneer 1080p plasma monitor costs $8000 and a Sony 1080p plasma costs $5000 - the former is superior. You pay for what you get.

32" is good for a bedroom. I have a 32" and it's a little small for the living room. If I get another TV, I'll put the 32 in the bedroom.

i agree with Dorian ... a friend just bought 2 1080p sets and both look as good as my 720 ... I can't tell the difference.

there are also other factors ... make sure you don't buy a tv that is too big for your living space as if you sit too close it will reveal more artifacting than a smaller set.

depends on the size of the living room :loco:

my 32" is fine for my living room ... heck I currently have an old school 13" tube set in the bedroom and its still great and does what it needs to (rock me to sleep) it just does not have A/V inputs for a DVD otherwise I would keep it :loco:

I bought the Samsung LN-T4061F (40", 1080p).

this bad boy is currently $1169 at Circuit City coupled also with a 12 month no interest promo on the CC card ...
might think about this instead to put in the living room and move my 32" 720p set to the bedroom.

wanted to get a 26" set for the bedroom, but decent ones are about $600-$700 ...

undecided as of yet ...

this article got me thinking ...
