BM feeling without BM repetition - does it exist?

What's the difference, then?

He's actually right.

Look at say Paradise Lost 'Icon' which has pop like song structure, is repetitive, stripped down rythmn,etc.. but you factor in the second guitar doing all the harmonies, solos, plus you have drum work,etc... The album is complex having tons of depth being intetesting but is repetitive. It does not mean it's minimalistic because the songs are repetitive themselves.

You can repeat some basic rythmn for 3,4 minutes while doing other things in a song to make it have a lot of depth not being basic anymore. Include other great things in the music that is more noticible than the basic foundation of the repeating parts.

Something is minimalistic and repititive at the sametime only if the musicians are not attempting to play, try, create, put it together. You have layering,harmonizing,solos,etc...

You can have a song with 2,3 basic rythmn parts for a foundation, repeat those parts adding different sounds, textures, other instruments over the basic rythmn as an abtraction to take away from that it self. Not the whole time but when the song needs a climax.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Minimalist alot of the time means boring. If it is minimalist in the sense of back to basics simplistic music its ok, but if if its doing as little as possible thats boring.

The fact remains that a lot of minimalistic and repetitive music sucks because it's too minimalistic and repetitive.

i tend to think like this

a lot of music sucks because it sucks, because it's done poorly

you can have TWO HUNDRED FORTY SIX RIFFS or THREE and if you do it well, it's good, if you do it shit, it's shit.

Best fucking quote ever

And the point to that is that it's done poorly due to the overuse of minimalism and repetition. Wow!.

This applies to all music though, obviously, not just minimalist Black Metal.

no

thats like saying that some more advanced and techy music that sucks sucks because it is advanced and techy

face it: some people just can't write songs, and it doesnt matter if its minimalistic or not because the same song idea written by someone who knew how to write proper songs would maybe be good.

No, what it's clearly saying that some more advanced and techy music that sucks sucks because it is excessively advanced and techy, which is a SPECIFIC form of poor songwriting. Understand now?
