I think i made the mistake of getting Borknager's Epic album tonite on recommendation they were melodic BM... what's your take on this band's music? they sound more in the Opeth vein to me.. then Emperor...

Apart from some acoustic stuff, most melodic Borknagar song that comes to mind is View of Everlast.

I recommend it... (and Four Element Synchronicity... and maybe the Genuine Pulse [starts of a little fast, but it gets there).

i think they are great. not really black metal. they have their moments. so i guess they are melodic black metal in the most extreme definition. they have a folky sound sometimes. think vintersorg. since he joined the band there has been a shift towards that sort of sound.

i really like epiricism

Maybe i just need to give the album a few more listens.. might grow on me.. anyways i'll definetly take the recommendations into consideration.. what are the names of the first two albums you recommended J.. ? ive heard Empiric is suppose to be good.. nay or yay on that one?

s/t
The Olden Domain

Empiricism wasn't bad, but Vintersorg is just not that great of a vocalist, and he ruins that album.

Oh be quiet you cretin, don't give this guy the wrong idea. :p Empiricism is great indeed, and V completely owned the vocals on that album. Vintersorg isn't for everyone, but you very well might enjoy his vocals. I sure as hell do... and as for Epic, it's good- but definitely not their best. As everyone has been saying, check out the s/t and The Olden Domain.

And by the way, I've been a Borkngar fan since I started listening to metal... does anyone have some Molested mp3s? They are impossible to find!!!

Well, it's like their first release is most closely BM and not as complex or refined (or IMO wonderful) as their later stuff. The Olden Domain domain offers a majestic viking feel. The Archaic Course isn't generally as well received, but I like it...more proggish. Empiricism and Quintessence are both excellent, developing the 'wall of noise' style that Borknagar is so good at. Epic is my favourite of them all...it deviates from this 'wall of noise' style a bit by developing complex harmonies where each melody line can more easily be listened to individually as well as on the whole...further refinement of complexity with better articulated BM-esque emotional power, IMO. One of my favourite bands, and Epic's my favourite of their albums.
