I'm not doubting the whole thing about the HM-2 not being designed for a boost. Was just curious, as I don't have a TS9 or such to compare.

And FWIW the HM-2 is amazing, provided you like the old school buzzsaw tone. I posted a clip in the "rate my mix" forum a week or two ago.

Update,
I will be keeping the sd-1, Palm mutes were awesome, single note lines had much better definition and it still made a night and day difference with the whole band at full on volume. I plan on doing a comparison clip to post up here when I get my Firepod fixed, Should be cool. You guys rock and so does the sd-1 infront of a Dual.

FWIW, I find the boss a tiny bit cleaner than my Maxon & works a little nicer with a Windsor.

The BOSS has asymmetric clipping, giving less apparent distortion at settings we like for the boosting thing - basically one side of the waveform has a higher threshold, so that side clips less.
