I didn't see a thread on these bastards, but I'm spinning Rdyandalir right now; it's simply ace.

I remember liking this a while ago, but for some reason I never bought any.

What are the best and where is the best place to buy the albums?

rdyandalir is something like one of the most underrated albums of all time

it's so far beyond most things that it's ridiculous

I listen to Stormheit more than Rdyandalir just 'cause A Stormride is such a fucking great song.

But yeah, more bands need to take a lesson from these guys in how to do black metal RIGHT

Yeah, they're pretty decent. Though, it's that type of band that needs some time to grow up on you (at least for me).

i'm going to come right out and admit that i own no other branikald albums

i've been meaning to rectify that but rdyandalir still consumes me to the point where i'm not sure i need more of the same yet

if you guys like this band you should also try RAVEN DARK "berustet av kriegsdronnet"

it's very much in the same vein but a little bit more riff based and less ambient

You should definitely check out Stormheit if you have not, easily one of the best demos ever released by far. As mentioned, "A Stormride" is an incredible song.

You really can't go wrong Branikald's albums, and all are worth listening to at least once. I really enjoy Av Vinterkald (also known as Winterkald) and Varg Fjerne A Tornet as well.

"Night and Fog" leading into "To a Frigid Luminary of the Night" on Av Vinterkald is brilliant and the likely the type of ambient sound you are mentioning Swizzle.

All of the Blazebirth Hall bands had a very similar sound early on, so there's a good chance you'd enjoy most of them. Raven Dark has already been mentioned by einride... Forest (Rus) is worth checking out as well (the s/t and As a Song in the Harvest of Grief particularly).. you may like Vargleide and Nitberg as well.

Some of the material on one of the RAVEN DARK CDs is supposedly some of the WOTANSJOLV material that hasn't been released. What little I've heard of RUNDAGOR is pretty good too...

BRANIKALD is probably my favourite Russian band... solid album without many weak spots (The Mead of Misanthropy is a little limp I think). The punkier style they adopted on Triumph of the Will (along with the most recent FOREST) is cool, but I hope they continue in the old style.
