how come apparently loads of opeth fans hate it, and people are always nervous about admitting they like it?

i think its one of their best tracks, i love ever second of it.. whats the deal with this?

Great song...a little disjointed, maybe. I don't think it flows as well as say, Advent, but hell it's twenty minutes long, so it's understandable. Some great individual parts, at the least. That volume-swell part that sounds like a violin is incredible.

I love that song. The part that kicks in around 13:30 and ends with the whispered "Black Rose Immortal" is one of my favorite single Opeth sections.

Who exactly are these "fans" who won't admit to liking BRI? Not any I've met... most seem to have wanted them to play BRI at the NYC and Chicago shows.

just when you read reviews and stuff they always suggest that 'die hard' opeth fans dislike it.. and you see people saying 'please dont kill me but I like BRI' etc.. someone said something similar recently on these forums and it sparked me to make this thread

Last time I professed my undying love for Black Rose Immortal, I got FUCKED!!

Now everyone's going to start professing their undying love for BRI....

Diehard Opeth fans seem to be timid, wily creatures, as they live on the edge of that great black morass known as true metal. Therefore while they love the band they must be ever ready to criticize their heroes, and particularly aspects of above which seem to be most popular, for fear of falling to a lack of obvious trueness in the eyes of their ever-watching and yet unseen internet peers.
