Why Does In The Mist She Was Standing go by so quick.

Though the first track off the Orchid album is opeth's second longest song ever, why does it always go by so quick? Songs like Forest of October and Advent seem to go for ages, but this song seems to zip by. Does anyone else experience this?

Blackwater is another song that zips by, but that's due to the strange structure I think.

I hope there are some REALL LONG songs on their new albums.

I hope they beat BRI.. =)

I don't sense that many of their songs "zip", but I am rarely satisfied at the end of an Opeth song, because, as you said, I wish they were longer.

It's kind of like those movies that you could watch for 4 hours because you're so engrossed in the story, but they're only 2 hours long.

I found a problem in Orchid!!!

In the third track, Silhouette, they fucked it up!
They accidentally forgot fifty-seven minutes of the song!
Thus we have only three

Yeah I fucking love that song, its been a while since I've heard it but I remember when I first bought Orchid I could not stop listening to that song just loved it.

Forest of October is another incredible song!

Oh yes! Might be not any less than my favorite Opeth song, definitely their most epic one ever. The beginning always sends me in a dream-like state...

I like the fact how they were able to write 14-minute love songs...not too many bands do ;) . Of course the lyrics are some of the most vague Mikael ever wrote, but all the references to "she" and the romantic shades in the music... the song just speaks of delicate, fragile beauty.

Yeah, Orchid has the most vague lyrics, not that there's anything wrong with that really. The vague lyrics are nice because it just lets you find a meaning in it, regardless of what the meaning was for Mikael.

Most definitely! Take a song like The Twilight Is My Robe...anyone with a strong belief in anything, be it God or even something totally personal, can relate. It's just a thought-out message of devotion they have on there.

Anyone notice that it's actually "In Mist She Was Standing"?

On the back of the CD it says 'In THE Mist She Was Standing' whereas in the inlay it leaves out 'THE'. It looks like this is because it all wouldn't fit up the side.

I'm a real sucker for long songs, I don't know why. The longer the better, as long as the song isn't shit of course. :) It's kind of like the band is teasing you when a song feels like it's been cut short.

Yeah, and it pisses me off everytime people miswrite it.

I am also a sucker for long songs. It is what got me into bands like Opeth, Yes and X - Japan.

I love the real longies, like Crimson (40mins), X - Japan's Art Of Life (30mins) and others.

Long songs allow more to be told, more to be heard. They jus good.
