Belus is the god of light, he was killed and a winter was cast upon the earth but when he returns, he shall bring us out of this cimmerian time. This metaphor, this idea seemingly as old as man, is the seed that birthed Burzum's new beginning. The artist has been liberated from an encrusted shell, the deathlike silent winter is over & he sees Sol for the first time in many cold years. The horizon shines brilliant this daybreak, summer is come.
An old theme is re-introduced before being transfigured, and thus the story unfolds...

I was just attempting to start a thread in which to discuss the album and not the gossip, hype and 411 on Mr. Vikernes :erk:

"sverddans" is bad, "kaimadalthas' nedstigning" is not very good, and the rest of the songs are great but nowhere near burzum's other metal albums

so a positive surprise overall

"sverddans" is bad

This song is really surprising, I like it actually. At first it seemed kind of immature and out of place, but I think the lyrics tie it in very nicely with the rest of the album in fact. That, and I find it extremely catchy.

i just think it's bad music

the lead is inventive and pretty cool but the main riff is abysmal and burzum 2010 should not attempt to be "aggressive"

Still trying to figure out how much of the enjoyment at this overall very good album is lost on the ludicrous intro

the answer is none. i hope this helps.

something that does affect my enjoyment: still trying to figure out what's up with the drums. sometimes i swear they are programmed but sometimes i'm equally sure they are played. i'm usually 100% accurate in determining if drums are programmed or played* but this kind of throws me off. someone on another forum said that they were recorded live in short loops which were then copied and pasted. this is an explanation that makes sense to me, but well, either way, the drums are fairly shit. and the crash sounds something like a 12" brass hi-hat top (i.e. unbelievably bad, with no actual "crash" to it)

* there is one time i failed: hey guys, how many of you realize that taake "nattestid" has 100% programmed drums? cause it does.

It turns out the intro is supposed to be a hammer hitting an anvil.

Anyhow, I think this album gets better with every listen. I love how it opens musically with the restatement of the theme of Baldr's Death and the vocals and the lyrics are immaculate. He uses a lot of sweeps on the guitar, perhaps bordering on stylistic redundancy at times, but he does maintain the atmosphere and the interconnectedness of this story. I am convinced that the drums are the only thing found somewhat wanting on the record, but it's no large qualm.

I've been "waiting" for this since 2001, and I'm more than satisfied.

Isn't "Sverddans" a re-recording of the "Uruk-Hai" song that he wrote way back in like 1991 or something?

As for the record itself: I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Positive surprise.

Yes it is, and I think it definitely sounds like it! Think the lyrics are better than they would've been back then though.

I'm sure I'll get back to this one sometime, I love the songs whenever they come on my player, but I never get the desire to listen to the album as a whole. Pretty much goes for everything from 2010 so far.
