Camera Policy Announcement

Thanks Glenn. I am not a huge photo person but it really bums me out when i go get the film from PPUSA developed and the pics of bands on stage look like one big blur and the pics of us with bands have everyones head chopped off.

This makes me really happy - while the policy wouldn't ever stop me from attending (last year was the only time I've been there since the ban took effect), a large part of the fun every year that I went was going through and posting all the crazy/hilarious photos from the weekend.

THANK YOU!
I bought my first really nice digital camera just for ProgPower V and had to leave it in the room every year after. Now that camera is on it's last legs and I was going to replace it with a cheap P.O.S. but now....oh now Amazon is going to be a LOT happier with the change in my shopping cart!

Cool, I don't have to waste $ on film and development. Plus, I can't tell who I took photos of with my iPhone, it's just bright lights.

Ironically, this invalidates my biggest attraction to sponsorship: bringing in the camera. :p

But then, I'm too old (or cynical, not sure which, at 30) to be standing on the rail all night to get the shots. Also, while it was my biggest reason, it sure as hell wasn't the only reason. Hehe.

When you say large camera bags does that automatically ban any dslr camera or would we be able to bring in the camera so long as we didn't have a bag full of lenses to go with it? I just want to be sure since I was thinking of buying one this Summer. It won't affect my decision to get one, but it would be nice if I could try it out at Prog Power.

That is a good question. I am seriously thinking of getting a new DSLR myself this summer (my trusty ol' Canon Powershot G3 that I had for the past 7 or so years is on it's last legs).

As a sponsor myself, I'll admit that having the perk of bringing in a camera was really cool. Got some interesting looks from people last year as I was going around shooting pictures all over the place. I even had a couple of folks about to say something to me than saw my VIP badge, then they were like "Oh, your VIP - never mind!"

Still, if it helps make this more appealing to folks and helps put butts in seats, than I am all for it. Still a sweet perk to be up in front of the rail to get pictures, though.

Cool. I dislike non-artistic photography (well mostly), so it doesn't affect me, but seems like it was more of a pain than it was worth.

This is an amazing announcement which has tremendous sentimental value for me. At the invite of friend Esa Ahola, I shot my first ever concert photos at Progpower USA in 2003 with a Nikon Coolpix 5700. That experience ignited a now lifelong passion and part time career as a professional life music photographer. I will always be thankful to Progpower for that.

Whether shooting for memories, an aspiring professional, or just to try your hand at the challenges of covering live music, please respect this incredible benefit of the festival. As a credentialed shooter for shows 2-3 nights per week I am escorted in, allowed to shoot the first 3 songs, and escorted out of the venue. This is a very gracious allowance for the festival.

I look forward to seeing everyones amazing photos.

Hey man, sounds like he's considering some nice perks to make it up to us. Besides, I bet he'll let you bring a bag for that extra memory card you're going to have this year ;)

I can already picture (no pun intended) the hundreds, if not thousands, of photos that will hit various Facebook pages almost instantaneously and also am happy that I will be able to enjoy all of the different viewpoints captured at the festival. Thank you, Glenn!

By then I'll have my new cell phone with unlimited data. I'll be twitpic-ing on twitter as the night progresses ;)

ROTFL.

I was able to save everything on that card, thankfully. I'm totally over it, I'm glad cameras are allowed again. It was a huge disappointment that i couldn't bring one as a normal attendee.

I'm still only bringing one lens with me this year for ease. Did good by me last year, and an infinitely better body will make it scream. :D
