...you would grow out of, or tire of, and didnt, and ones you thought you wouldnt grow out of or not like anymore and you did.

ill start with.....CD i thought id grow tired of - Tricky - Maxinquaye
...CD i thought i wouldnt grow out of - all my Sevendust cds haha

Let me know what you people's experience has been??

I personally thought, after getting more and more into the metal scene (and especially Opeth, at the time) that I'd grow out of Stabbing Westward. But I didn't... if anything I love their music more than ever. They're just a simplistic rock/industrial act that do it for me... their older albums have amazing synth ambiences, the later ones some really nice rocky vibes. I still love that band.

I also thought I'd grow out of In Flames and such. I recently got back into The Jester Race and Whoracle and I love em more than ever. Very good songwriting within standard song structures.

Same deal with Sepultura. I still love Arise and before...

The CDs I didn't think I'd grow out of... most of the Opeth ones, unfortunately. They just don't do it for me like they used to. I really hope the new album reinvigorates my interest in them. Having said that of course, I still think Still Life is one of the greatest albums ever written, but I just don't listen to it on a regular basis anymore. I may have burned it out for myself by constantly playing it.

I'm sure there are more.. I just can't think of any. I suppose Meshuggah could be one. I don't revere them as much as I used to. The style just got boring, especially since it keeps getting progressively more simplistic (or atleast audibly simplistic, not technically) on all the subsequent albums.

hmm interesting moonlapse, if i think way 'back in the day', another one that comes to mind i never thought i could possibly grow out of at the time - Korn or should i say KoRn....ahhh thank god tastes change...another simplistic quite stereotyped cd i still enjoy though is Sinch's self titled album, great listen

unfortunately, i've grown out of a lot of bands/cds, due to many listens. i get tired of hearing music in which i memorize, due to many many listens, every single guitar part/lyric in my head.

bands i used to listen to a lot, and now rarely:
iced earth
metallica
slayer
dream theater
children of bodom
shadows fall
in flames
soilwork
pantera
tool
etc...
i also listen to opeth considerably less than i did.

yeah that's another thing, I don't get how some people can listen to the same music for years and never get bored of it. I knew this lady that religiously listened to Jethro Tull for 30+ years

i've personally just recently gotten into jethro tull, so it'll take many years to get bored of this good music :)

Some stuff needs to be put down and forgotten about for a loooonnnnggg time. Whether you just played it too much, or grew out of it at the time. Play it again later and its like hearing from a lost love.

Examples for me:

Sonic Youth, particularly Daydream Nation, Sister, and EVOL. True alternative music that aged very well. Amazed at how influential they've become. This guy standing behind me at one of their shows explained it to his girlfriend this way, "these guys are masters, last week I saw The Vines, and after three songs, they got boring."

The Smiths (entire catalog). After going the whole 90s without listening to them once, I popped in Hatful of Hollow and was blown away all over again. Timeless, really.

Some hair bands. XM radio has a hair band station that I've been listening to lately. Great to hear some of the better acts (Mr. Big, Tesla, TNT, Dokken, Def Leppard) again.

things i thought id never grow out of but did:

metal...

things i thought id grow out of: nothing

I grew out of Tool bigtime, was never a huge fan, but realised they are more about image and stupid fans, if Marnard spend as much time writing music as being a faggot Id probably still listen to them.

I think everyone grows out of Metallica, so that doesnt really count.

I used to listen to Everything but the girl alot, as well as Placebo, still listen to them abit, but they seem a little meh.

Hahaha, likewise.

Nirvana and The Doors are two bands that come to mind which I used to love but grew out of.
haha! i was kidding. No Doubt were (and are?) incredibly bad. however, *all* my friends in the mid-90s listened to them so I couldn't get away. Another band I was ruthlessly subjected to while smoking huge amounts of weed in the back seat of my buddy's car were Candlebox. Don't know why. They were just kinda popular back then. And I admit, whatever the album was called, it wasn't that bad.

As for Opeth, I'm sure I'll eventually grow out of them. Then again, I've been listening to Rush, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, et al for about 15 years and the only time I've even come close to getting bored with them has been during my recent introduction to death metal by many of the folks here - *waves to nick and aka deliverance*

I find that I tend to leave some of the things that I have listened to for years and always look for something new.

It is not that I no longer like these bands, but I don't need to listen to them all the time as I know the music inside out. The best thing is coming back to them when you are in the mood for them.

My three favourite bands are New Model Army, Opeth and Queen. I rarely listen to any of them, usually only on release of a new masterpiece and any opportunity to see them live. The rest of the time, I only listen to them when I am in the mood for visiting an old musical friend. Those three bands are probably my most easy listening as it is all so familiar.

That said, I do have a wide taste so it is easy not to stagnate.

Have you checked out Benefit? It gets lost in the shadows of Thick as a Brick and Aqualung but I think it is just as good of an album.

Well, when I was 15 or 16 I thought I'd be pure metal for life...but as I age I get into other non metal bands. It's a perfectly normal, natural thing...I'm happy with everything I listen to and I'll probably always be a big metal fan but also a fan of other music as well. If I had to name one or two bands I thought I'd never get sick of...probably Children of Bodom and the whole melodic death genre in general.

I bought:
Thick as a Brick - absolutely love it
Passion Play - only listened a few times, but sounds good
Aqualung - very good

downloaded:
This Was - don't care for it, granted it's their debut

haven't heard "Benefit" yet. I will check it out though, thanks.

I use to listen to korn everyday on the day. Now I dont listen to them anymore because of all the new bands I keep finding, I use to feel something from them now I don't.

i would love to have a huge ass cd collection but i'm really cheap and have a problem buying cds. i downright refuse to download stuff from the internet. thusly, i seem to be stuck with the same bands i've listened to a milion years ago. it's been a couple months since i saw Cryptopsy live and i have yet to buy an album. i always just think, "that $15 would buy a tank of gas".
