My thoughts exactly.

Did you dislike Bathory before the tournament, or only after they beat Opeth? :tickled: I have to admit, for a second, I was really resentful towards Drudkh for beating Megadeth, but then came to my senses since both are good albums, and it was only 1 vote between them.

Enslaved though, fuck them. :tickled:

I'm sure lurch70 hates Katatonia even more now. And "Svidd Neger" will bring a smile to my face forever now. :)

Why no "None of the Above" option in this poll?

Hey I was listening to The Gathering Wilderness a lot this past week, and was wondering how in holy poop you can dig that album but not dig Bathory at the same time? Not that musical taste has to ever make sense, I'm just curious. :dopey:

It happens. Zod likes Primordial and Manowar. Somewhere in the middle of all that is Bathory.

Hey, I was just looking at my super-duper deluxe digipak DVD edition of "The Gathering Wilderness" and noticed that they dedicated the album to Quorthon.

I think I'm the only person here who hasn't fully connected to Primordial. I mean, The Gathering Wilderness is a really good album, but I wouldn't give it more than an 8/10. I can see why you guys like them, but there's just something lacking for me. Oh well, I've only heard TGW and Imrama, any suggestions?

Spirit the Earth Aflame or The Journey's End. Do it now!

I'm going to try to hear some tracks first. I don't want it to be like when I bought Imrara on suggestion... I don't really like it :(

Nah I've not become really enamored with them (yet) either. I'm not sure what to make of TGW yet, The Coffin Ships is a stunning song, but it really dwarves the other songs which right now sounds pretty tepid to me.

See, I think there are about 4 tracks on the album that are better than The Coffin Ships. I guess I'm just weird...

I'm thinking that Martyr's Fire (End of All Times) and Tragedy's Birth are my favourites.

Hey, Max, if you don't want your Imrama, maybe we could work out a trade or sale?

If you don't like TGW, it's not like you're suddenly magically going to like them based on AJE or StEA. It may just be one of those bands that you don't click with. They're exceptionally unique (I cannot think of a single band that sounds like Primordial) so I imagine it's an acquired taste. I had StEA for ages before it suddenly clicked, and I thought wtf?? Now, they're in my top 7 bands right now. :)

Spirit the Earth Aflame and Storm Before Calm, I thought, were more immediate than The Gathering Wilderness. The Gathering Wilderness doesn't do anything for some people because of the repetition in the music and lack of obvious dynamics that people are used to in metal, but I think it's great. Nemtheanga's voice is too awesome to ignore!

I have never got into Storm before Calm for some reason. Seeing as the band are so impressive, I won't give up on it. I'll occasionally pull it off the shelf.

Here is Primordial in overview:

1. Spirit the Earth Aflame
2. The Gathering Wilderness
3. A Journey's End
4. Storm before Calm

1, 2, and 3 are exceptionally close. #4 is pretty far behind the others.

Never heard Imrama. Suppose I should fix this one day.

I didn't care all that much about them beating Opeth (though I certainly find Opeth to be vastly superior), it was specifically a Bathory album beating Morningrise in the 1st freaking round (particularly after just winning the ENTIRE previous tournament) that brought out the intensity.

To answer your question more directly though, I disliked Bathory (or at least was indifferent towards them) well before the tournament. Perhaps it was due to my introduction to the band coming in the form of Nordland (can't recall if it was part 1 or 2) right after Progpower III. Regardless, I've given Hammerheart and Blood, Fire, Death their due listens and my opinion did not change. I will readily admit though, the two tournament results certainly did nothing to make me want to revisit their catalogue.
