Charlie Benante or Davie Lombardo

Dave I'd say. They'r eboth incrdible with their feet but dave is eaqually as good with his hands and I dont think Charlie's fills are as technical or cool.

I think Charlie plays faster fills with his hands than Dave (on the snare)

Very different drummers. Dave, up to Seasons, was all about speed and precision and intensity, I think. Charlie can play like that, but I think he's more into groove, like Vol. 8. As far as technical, it doesn't sound to me like Dave is more technical. To me, it sounds like Charlie plays some funkier rhythms, like Nobody Knows.

Lombardo grooves too. Anyone heard the first Grip Inc album? His drumming on that is great, especially on Heretic War Chant.

Slayer's music doesn't really give much opporyunity to show that side of his playing. Maybe. (Don't get me wrong, I like Slayer but stopped listening after "Seasons")

In terms of overall talent as a musician, Charlie no contest! Charlie's a world class songwriter, and I've read an interview with Scott, where he said Charlie's an even better guitarist than he or Dan! I can't say cause I've never heard Charlie play (other than Intro To Reality), but he's gotta be at least pretty good, to have come up with the riffs/songs that he has! Throw in his abilities as a drummer, and you're not gonna find a lot of guys with that much overall musical talent! As far as I know Dave's an amazing drummer. I'm a huge fan of both Charlie and Dave! :kickass:

You can hear charlie's guitar solos in Nothing, American Pompei, Bare, Catharsis, Piss 'n Vinigar, Superhero.... and some other songs of the last 4 records...

Thanks, but I knew all that. I forgot to put an etc. beside Intro To Reality. I know it appears like I only know that Charlie played on Intro To Reality, but like a lot of people on the board, I own all the albums and generally know who played what on which song. What I meant was that I haven't heard enough of Charlie's guitar playing to really rate him as a player. I've heard enough to say that I think he's good, but not enough to say how
good. For example I've only heard Charlie play guitar live on Territorial Pissings on SOD Live At Budokan. One song is not enough to rate someone's live playing, no matter how many times I've heard it.

Charlies Amazing. I still cannot figure out Caught in Mosh on drums. They both play very fast. I mean I've never heard either of them fuck up. Charlie can play anything Dave can. Just watch Speak English or Die Live when they play raining blood. End of story everybody.

Cheers,
Metalthrasher

also, the only real lead on Speak English or Die was Charlie. Hense Milano shouting "CHARLIE!" right before the lead. that use to confuse me so much! I was like "Why does he shout the drummers lead before a guitar solo?!" Oh I was so young.

This is probably the fastest solo he's ever played. Poor Scott got his guitar ass kicked!

Ill still stick with Dave...hes never sold out any of his previous/current band members...plus hes never sold out to his fans....Bitter post...Hell Yeah

Wow this thread is like split 50/50.
Im always going to pick Charlie.

Me too! I'm always gonna go with the Anthrax member when put up against a member of another band. 'Cause Anthrax are my favourite musicians! :kickass:

Yeah me too. But charlie is better.

I agree. Especially when you compare the two not only as drummers, but as musicians! Dave's one of the best drummers period imo, but Charlie is not only one of the best drummers ever, but he's also one of the best songwriters in metal! Imo it's a close call in terms of drumming (Charlie IS better though), but Charlie wins NO CONTEST in terms of overall musical talent imo. That's not the Anthrax fanboy in me talking either!
