I updated the link once again. I worked on the snare some more, based on all the suggestions here this is the best I can come up with, doesn't seem like an impressive improvement though. Maybe I need to clear my head for a couple of days, problem is I'm kinda on a deadline for this. I'll keep trying, keep the suggestions coming.

Btw if anyone wants to have a go with the snare since I seem to be failing here's the backing track and the snare separately:

And yet another update (same link). I messed around with the drums some more. Please someone tell me it's improved or I'm going to throw my computer through the window!

seriously though, tear it apart if you think there are problems, I can take it. It's just that at some point I'll have to accept that it doesn't sound as good as it should because I have a deadline this week.

I think maybe you're right. I've been focusing mostly on the snare and the bass drum to be honest. Although I think the problem is mainly with the hihat. I'll check it out more carefully.
