Chicago Peeps - Orphaned Land

Amber,
Yeah, I noticed you from a distance during Swallow the Sun's set, but as you said, it was so crowded.

I only noticed Jose because Bob pointed him out, but he was up on the stairs.

I agree about the venue maybe being a bit small.
Though if it were at Pearl Room, and it was the same crowd size, it would have only been a third full.

That's why I think Reggie's is great, because it gives the underground touring bands a place to play which will always seem nice and full. It has to be a bummer to play to a half filled bigger room.

My only complaint is the show needed to be booked at a bigger venue as it was WAY too crowded in there. And I like that venue. The sound is good and the employees aren't dicks like they are at a lot of venues where big names play.

Exactly what I thought. Don't know if there are any other venues though that are in between this and HOB.

Though in defense of the Katatonia show, Reggies booking Novembers Doom (I think) after tickets went on sale had a lot to do with the crowd too I think. Had they not been there, it wouldn't have been as crowded.

Ha! Yeah, STS is Mike's favorite band, so he wanted to get up close for them. I was so out of it, tired as hell...probably looked like a zombie. And while I dig STS, they are more of an "I'm going to lie here on the couch staring into space and listen to this music" than a band that I care to see live. And the fact that I had been up since 5am, didn't help things.

I miss the Pearl Room....but you are right. There were far too many bands that played to a room that was a third full, which yeah, sucks from their perspective. For me it was great because of the room to move around. Ha!

And I think we've had the discussion before about the fact that touring bands from out of town would want to play in a venue actually in Chicago and not some venue an hour outside of Chicago where there is really nothing "Chicago-y" around it.

Bottom Lounge is a nice place. My only worry was having to park my car in a shady looking area.

Good call on the ND "if you book them, EVERYONE will come" theory. You're probably right. Those guys can draw a crowd.

Dont' know why I didn't think of it. Speaking of this though, I'm really wondering why Gamma Ray are playing Reggies. I'd imagine we'll have the same situation with them in February.

doubtful....when they played with Helloween there was only like 600 there....which would be a sell out at Reggies. I would rather see them play Bottom Lounge though.

it was just like home for me. I did scare jason...he was changing his shoes in the car and Icame around from the back of his car and tried to open his car door and yelled "break yourself fool". His head spun around with this paniced look in his eyes. Good times.

But Bob, remember this is only one of three shows they'll be playing in the states. Some people in the surrounding areas will drive to see them and some may even travel.

Bob - I have a much better story regarding Friday to tell, but I am not sure I have the "green light" to tell it. Right now, I am restricted to the "red light"

I love Reggies and playing there is fun, cramped stage or not. But from a crowd perspective I could see how having the show at Bottom Lounge would've been better, I really like that place too. And we haven't played the new Bottom Lounge yet, hopefully sometime soon.

And freaking out Jason in the car while changing his shoes is fucking hilarious, I approve!! LOL
