We have Chipotle's and I love em, but I have never had Baja Fresh. Are they further west or South? I live in CLeveland.

Baja Fresh is Chipotle's primary competition in the "fresh Mex" category of restaurants. They are a relatively small chain, but they are growing, and like Tim Hortons, they are owned by Wendys. I know there is one in Montrose, near Akron, because I've eaten there. I'm not sure if there any in Cleveland though. There are 3 or 4 in Columbus. They have a wider selection of items than Chipotle - but nothing is quite as gargantuan as the burrito you'd get at Chipotle. I love both places though - 5 star food at a fast food pace!!

Thanks for the info. I think Chipotle is or was owned by McDonald's--after they were originally established.

There's so many Mexican food places out here, I'm surprised any chain can stay open. I don't go to Baja Fresh because there's an Armando's in the same parking lot. I also frown on places that don't have high chairs. I can see where the Chipotle near me would do well despite sharing a parking lot with Taco Bell, though.

funny u mention maccas, didnt they have a bad turnover last financial year, finally people are starting to realise after all these years that it should be called macshit, hungryjacks is alright but maccas is off the planet!

Yes, McDonalds owns Chipotle and Donatos pizza.

I've heard of Donato's. Are they any good ???

Me and a friend were close to buying a Baja Fresh franchise a couple of years ago. We're still thinking of buying a franchise of something. Don't know what yet though. Quizno's came to mind but then I tried them out. I didn't really like it all that much. And I've been twice.

Alex: Donato's is GREAT, it was started by a guy in Columbus in the 1960's, and even when McDonalds bought the corporation they kept the recipe intact. I don't think it has taken off the way Chipotle did, so McDonald my be selling the restaurants back. All I know is that it is the best "chain" of pizza pies (along with Uno's) there is.

You hit the nail right on the head and may not even realized it. The reasons chains, even shitty ones like Taco Hell, stay open is because they are chains. They'll let a few sit around and do shitty business, because the other 100,000 can carry the load, and as long as it is open, it burns that logo into your mind. Look at Starbucks (a good, albeit grossly overpriced, chain), they believe in market "cannibalism," that is to say, they will open up a Starbucks, right across the damned street from another Starbucks, just so YOU (the consumer) knows who's who.

Starbucks hasn't completely taken over Phoenix yet, but I can see it coming. You have to be a serious addict to want that shit when it's 112 outside. My sister-in-law started working there just because she figured she might as well get paid for all the time she spends there. Now she manages to work it into every conversation... (they probably trained her that way)...
