NEVERMORE GUITARIST DIAGNOSED WITH KIDNEY DISEASE, LIMITED TOUR PLANS ANNOUNCED

Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth has been recently diagnosed with end stage kidney failure, the result of a congenital birth defect.

Says Smyth: “ I have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, and have been advised to preserve my health as much as possible at this time, as I am facing “complete renal failure” within six months, and ultimately, a transplant. Due to my recently diagnosed condition, I have decided not to join the band on the In Flames US tour. I want to be fair to the fans, and be able to give them a show I know I can deliver night after night. I will, however, join Nevermore on all four of the European festivals on our itinerary in early June: Gods of Metal, Rock Hard, Rott Fest, and Sweden Rock, after which, the doctors should have some news about the next step in my treatment. I will say this: I will fight this, and I will be back!”

Jag Panzer guitarist Chris Broderick will fill in for Smyth on the upcoming US tour, after which Smyth will rejoin the band for the aforementioned European festival dates. For more from Smyth about his health situation and future career plans, please visit www.stevesmyth.com

Wow. First Jim the bass player announces he has to miss a few weeks of gigs because of Crohn's disease treatment, now this! I hope Jim and Steve are OK.
In any event, I'll be seeing Chris on guitar 5/8 in Myrtle Beach. I'm looking forward to it!

Very very sorry for Stevie and also Jim! Damn! I really wish both of them to get well asap!

And best of luck to Chris for the US tour! ;)

I hope that Jim and Steve get better, for real. I will not miss being in the same room with Jeff and Chris at the same time, though, holy Muhammed's dingleberry-strewn asscrack, that will be glorious.

I saw Nevermore last night at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. They played an absolutley killer set. We (my buddy and me) didn't really need to see In Flames or the other band so I left early and wandered out to the tour buses. Chris was out back on his cell phone and he very kindly came over after we waved at him. We chatted with him for 10 minutes or so and he signed my TTTT disc. Chris, thanks so much for spending some time tolerating another geeky fan!

That video SMOKES! Killer guitar playing all around!

All the shred guitar fans on the net are passing this link around. And picking winners too! ("Broderick was better. No Loomis was better. No it's Broderick", etc). Both guys are outrageous players! But of course if I was forced to pick one, it's Chris all the way!
