Church of Australian Metal

We don't get a long weekend, but we also don't want another fucking lockdown.

I've just realised I didn't listen to a lot of Aussie stuff last year. I had a few albums I knew were coming and I waited for those but didn't seek much new stuff. Anyway here's my list.

1. In Malice's Wake - The Blindness Of Faith
2. Hidden Intent - A Place Of Horror
3. System Trashed - Oxygen Thieves
4. Harlott - Detritus Of The Final Age
5. Hidden Intent - Addicted To Thrash (single)
6. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard - Chunky Shrapnel
7. The Wizar'd - Subterranean Exile
8. Raven Black Night - Run With The Raven
9. King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - KG
10. AC/DC - Power Up

AC/DC being Australian is a bit of a stretch these days but I need to check out more stuff from last year.

Hey everyone, my band Aeons Abyss (Melbourne Death Thrash), has started a venture on Spotify.

Its a Music+Talk podcast called The Metal Podcast.

Features guest segments from underground bands with an Australian focus. Guest already featured; Ashen, Beleth, Crypt Crawler, In Malice's Wake, Out of Hand (Puerto Rico), Kam Lee (Massacre) ... and more.

Got Idle Ruin and Flamming Wreckage in the next show.

Underground Death / Thrash bands, feel free to reach out to the podcast if you want to be part of the show.

Music played is from the Spotify library and any streams through the show count as streams for the band.

Show Link is: https://open.spotify.com/show/0hgnEaTNQokNKu6IGaTtPy?si=a3BTXqGuS3-0UPcrI0a6Bg&dl_branch=1

My band is actually dropping a new single tomorrow called Prelude to Terror - band links - https://linktr.ee/aeonsabyss

Nice.

Did you ever do a best of 2021 list?

Actually no I didn't, but here ya go.

Top 10 Australian Metal of 2021:

1. Derailment - Come Clean in Death
2. StarGazer - Psychic Secretions
3. Tyrannic - Mortuus Decadence
4. Portal - Avow
5. Lucifer's Fall - III - From the Deep
6. Fate's Hand - Fate's Hand
7. The Slow Death - Siege
8. Galaxy - On the Shore of Life
9. The Furor - Obliteration Matrix
10. Charnel Altar - Abatement of the Sun

I've only got 8 Australian albums from 2021 and one of them was almost un-rateable.

Only got the chance to listen to Galaxy when came out. Not bad but the vocals sound a bit off in parts.

That Fate’s Hand sounds interesting- not too many aussie acts try for that style these days.

Nothing Sacred - No Gods. I used to see these guys around the traps 30+ years ago and they were really good live so when I heard they were releasing their first album in 33 years I hoped for something great. But that wasn't to be it was boring, uninspiring and not even good enough to be called generic thrash.

For a ‘speed metal” band it has a fair few mid-tempo plodders.

There has been a heap of 80's bands come back in the last few years and many of them have done mediocre records but even some of those showed some progression from their hiatus, Nothing Sacred seem to have gone backwards.
