Classics Reborn

The vocals made me picture picture someone like Geddy Lee from the 70's a bit nerdy and possibly a cape :)

Haha, I think you've got it one :)

I just never heard that lower voice of his in the beginning there. I've heard his lower register but not sounding like that. but I didn't listen to any Priest until Painkiller.

Painkiller is nearly the definitive heavy metal song but I love some of their earlier stuff, their first album sounds nothing like Judas Priest and not really metal but listening to it you can hear how JP became what they did. Some of their earlier stuff is harder to listen to purely because it doesn't sound like the same band who released Painkiller.[/QUOTE]

Man Painkiller is great lol
You're right, I know that they have music that kind of jumps around. They did a little band wagon chasing also. Funny enough sometimes I'll hear a song and really like it only to find out it's a Priest cover. Same thing with the Scorpions. The catalogs go so far back now!

Yeah I was looking at the JP history last year and it was a bit of a shock to realise they've been around since 69. It's no wonder their music has changed so much. Like the Scoprions and Motorhead etc you know they've been around for years but seeing just how many years is a shock.

Yeah! The Scorpions really shocked me a few years ago when I found out they went back to the 60's. and some of that shit is pretty heavy and or weird. And the guitar really ahead of a lot of people. And all those years in the 80's and 90's I only thought Hurricane and Wind of Change...hey what's up with two of their biggest hits being wind related?!

Songs about farts sell?

When it comes to old time heavy stuff I still can't go past Wishbone Ash, the influence they had on bands like Maiden is obvious.

Their first four albums are classics but even some of the later stuff where they had line changes have some good stuff on them.

I was lured into a YT ruse this morning. I was reading that Slayer were recording a show the other day for a DVD release and there was a video link so I clicked on it thinking it might have been a single song or something but it was shot from the back of the room, couldn't even see the band, but you could see the boom cameras so there is proof the band were recording it :)

When Kerry King wasn't 'defending' himself he said the same thing too but you can understand why it was overshadowed, defending himself for wanting to stay employed after all these years is much more important.

34 years since Sabbath's Born Again. I was happy when I first heard Gillan was fronting Sabbath. I didn't think he could replace Dio or Ozzy but I thought it would be interesting because I like Gillan as a singer. However BA is not a great Sabbath album and Trashed is about the only good song on it.

Birthdays for Bruce Dickinson and for Michael Weikath from Helloween

He only did one album and I think it's worth at least one listen but I prefer to think of it as a Gillan solo album because it wasn't really Sabbath. It didn't really have the Sabbath feel and part of that was no doubt the Gillan factor but I do think it would have been better received if it didn't have the name Sabbath on it.

Thankfully I don't think he tried to live up to it as the media thought he was going to.
